Kidnapped Lagos PDP Chair, Aivoji, Regains Freedom

Alhaji Hakeem Amode, the Lagos State spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has confirmed the release of the kidnapped state party chairman, Mr. Philip Aivoji.

In a message on Monday, Amode, the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Aivoji was released after spending four days with the kidnappers.

“We use this opportunity to appreciate your prayers and to thank you all for your concerns and prayers,” Amode stated.

Aivoji was kidnapped last Thursday in the Ogere area of Ogun on the Ibadan-Lagos expressway while returning from the PDP South-West zonal meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The abductors initially contacted his family, demanding a N200 million ransom. However, Amode did not confirm whether any payment was made before Aivoji’s release.

The party expressed gratitude to the security agencies and government authorities that facilitated Aivoji’s freedom.

Cases of banditry and kidnappings are very rare in Lagos. This particular case even involved a whole PDP chairman. I see 2 possibilities here:
It is either this particular case is politically motivated, or the current high level of insecurity in Nigeria has finally made its way into Lagos too.

Kidnapping is now the new gold mine for criminal elements

Low risk, high reward

Only one thing can deter this ugly trend

Public execution of these wicked people to serve as deterants to others

As usual, no ransom was paid.

if such a HIGH PROFILE citizen was kidnapped and held for almost 100 hours, then just know that nobody is safe at all.

I was out and about in Lagos yesterday and I kept seeing different police men at different locations doing surveillance and random checks. I'm impressed but I hope they won't be compromised or chicken out when they come across the real criminals. May God be with our security forces

The military should take over every kidnappers den in the bush...they should be camping there instead of waiting for them to group/regroup as the case may be to launch attacks. Countless measures are open for them to deploy...
