Due to every thing that has been going on in the country coupled with the fact that my building project is located at a remote area with not too many people living around me, I've been extremely on edge and rethinking my decision to move to the house once the project is completed.
I have decided that the fencing of the house will be a bit higher than usual and I will make sure the barb wires are the original ones used in prison fence.
In addition to that, I am considering building an underground bunker at the left over plot of land at the back of the house. I initially wanted to use this plot for swimming pool but I had to rethink.
Cuz the way Nigeria is going and the world in general, there is no way we won't have a full blown war to deal with in not so far future and having a bunker will go a long way to protect me and my family for some time at least.

I have done a lot of research on how to build one but I need to seek the opinions of engineers in the house.

WHAT ARE THE THINGS I NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN BUILDING A BUNKER AND WHAT SECURITY MEASURES SHOULD I PUT IN PLACE?

For now these are my plans.

1. I have instructed my block suppliers to mold concrete blocks made with only stone dust and Cement. These concrete blocks becomes as hard as stone once they are dry.

2. I plan to instruct the workmen to lay a thick German flooring and cover with nylon then lay another German floor on it to prevent water from coming in from under the ground especially during heavy rainy season.

3. I plan to use 16mm rods for the four wall pillars of the room and make a passage from the house to the bunker. The passage will also be underground. The passage will also have pillars at intervals and this intervals will be gated. I plan to have 3 small gates in the passage to the main bunker.

4. To cover, I'll use 20mm rods for the decking and a lot of stone dust instead of sharp sand.

5. All the walls will be built with the concrete blocks so that will make the walls solid. Including the foundation so that landslide or earthquake will not be able to affect the underground structure.

Those are my plans for now. Please let me know if there are some things I should consider and I'm overlooking. Please note that there will be a back exit that will lead to the back of the fence (I intend to leave some land space at the back of the fense for that.

I still dont know what to do about ventilation. But I have to figure something out. AC is not an option since the external engine outside will be a give away and if there is an attack, they may cut off power. I intend to have inverters in the bunker too but inverters are not powerful enough to run AC. SO I'M CONFUSED ABOUT VENTILATION AT THE MOMENT.

No I didn't. I opted for secret rooms instead. I have a few secret homes and in the 5 bedroom deplex.

A good alternative there sir. This might not give security from fire outbreaks or nuclear explosions but still serve its purpose
