My mum died from a ghastly motor accident yesterday in Lagos. She was only 48. She was alive for a couple of hours. The hospital they took her to rejected her. She was in so much pain until she died! My life is literally shattered. Nigeria has happened to me. You can never really be free from this country until you have all your loved ones out! Her death could have been avoidable.

This is the greatest fear of everyone in the diaspora. The fear that they may never get to see their loved ones again. This fear has happened to me and it hurts more than a 1000 swords piercing through my heart. I’m only 28. How do I live the rest of my life with this part of me missing? She was the most important person in my life! She was my inspiration and motivation. She’s the main reason that I have gotten this far in life. My dream had always to make her proud and change her situation for the better. How do I continue? What purpose do I have now that she’s not here?

The last time I hugged her was on a Tuesday, 10th of August, 2021 when I branched by her workplace before heading to the airport. Little did I know that that would be the last time I’ll ever see her. Now I regret not calling her enough, calling her on video calls, reaching out to her when I have had the chance. This is so painful!

For those abroad, please always reach out to your parents and always make them know how much you love them. Life is fleeting and we may never get the chance to again. And try your best to bring them over if you can! That country is bad news!

Sorry for your loss.
It's unfortunate, same can happen irrespective if where one is.

This is heart wrecking , I can't imagine something happening to my Mom because I might end up commiting suicide; I understand how you feel, I didn't forgive myself for years when I lost my dad back in 2015 as a kid in early teens.

Dang, this is heartbreaking. May Nigeria never happen to you again and may her soul rest in peace.

So sad!!!

May her soul rest in perfect peace and may those she left behind find the fortitude to bear such irreparable loss.

Nigeria is indeed a terrible place.

Yes, motor accidents happen all over the world but hospitals rejecting victims from such is not a global standard.

If a hospital can not handle emergencies as such, why is it still being licensed to operate?
Even if the injured's case is severe and needs specialized treatment which involves transferring to a bigger facility, they could reduce the impact by offering the basics to stabilize the injured while arrangements is made for transfer.

In Nigeria right now, if you need medical attention, ensure you go a state of the art private hospital that will take care of you because of your money or you go to a hospital where you know a nurse or doctor.

Our health sector is shared.

A friend of mine had a machine accident and was having head bleeding. He was scheduled for an operation in a teaching hospital. Imagine we have the hospital 11pm, doctors just kept him till 4pm the next day, that was when they where getting ready for the operation. Imagine, a patent with head bleeding left unattended. He didn't make it to the theatre room.

Take heart and sorry for the loss. We are all just passing through life. At a point death is certain. Death is the passage to the next life.

I hope God grants you the fortitude to bare the loss. I also hope life improves in Nigeria. Sorry

Op, so sorry for your loss. Accept my condolences. These are some of the things we always tell people like ogbonti. If Nigeria is not a failed country, things like these can easily be avoided.

When one tells people like ogbonti that this country Nigeria is a failed state, he will argue with us. Imagine there are no functional hospitals to save the life of someone that was rushed over due to accident.

ogbonti will never agree with us. He will glorify Nigeria and her failed government because non of those suffering is related to him.

One will never understand how useless Nigeria is until Nigeria happens to someone that is close to you.

People like ogbonti that glorify this corrupt country will learn the hard way one day.

may her soul rest in perfect peace, native doctors are better than naija's capitalist doctors. But its all our fault, we never fought back so it's affecting everyone home and away. No one is special, even obj lost his wife in spain. We all need to play our path, life na scam las las don't be carried away with it. We are immortal beings and we will all leave our earthly body one day.

I am dragging you because some of you these so called folks who claimed to have travelled abroad and know what's obtainable in the western world will still be so callous to turn a blind eye to the happenings in the country.

Are you not the one that said Nigeria is heaven on earth? Let Nigeria happen to you or someone close to you only then you will desist from painting Nigeria a heaven on earth country.

In the western world you claimed to have lived, do hospitals reject accident victims? So why will a grown up man like you can't come up and speak against the corrupt country you claim to love so much? Are you blind to the different terrible happenings going on in the country? Are you blind?

In your heart to heart, why will you come up to the open to be telling angry youths that Nigeria is doing well. Everything is working fine. Why can't you speak about the bad things happening? Why do you always think as far as non of your person is touched, you give no damn fvck about the rest of the masses that a suffering on a daily basis? ogbonti I am asking you, why are you so wicked in your heart? How wicked can someone like you be? How heartless are you?

I see you on every travel thread always dragging people who escaped this zoo. You always fight and troll them when they speak of how their lives had improved since they left the zoo.

You do every thing possible to always drag them. Can you deny that? All your footprints is on Nairaland dragging people who give their testimonies of how their lives had improved since they left the so called zoo you called country.

Now, when I draw your attention to terrible happenings in the country, you think I am dragging you. Whereas, you are the father of trolling.

It is high time you desist from glorifying Nigeria, if not what I will wish you, you won't like it.

Sorry for your loss, OP.

Nigerian hospitals are USELESS. If it's not malaria, they can't do ANYTHING for you.

You must complete the journey you've started. Honour the memory of your mother. Pursue the citizenship of the country you reside in with vigour to make sure that NIGERIA never have the opportunity to hurt you again.

Sorry about your loss.

This is the kind of mindset that took Nigeria to this level.

So you mean in useful country, accident victims requiring emergency stabilisation are turn away and left to writhe in pain till death?

We make excuses for politicals leaders, making them have little sense of accountability and reward incompetence

In a normal country, when something like this happens, it will make headline, people will talk a lot it, people will lose their jobs for it, politicians in the area will be forced to resign or be booted out of office, police investigation for negligence will be opened against a few people...........that is how you build accountability and competence.

Suggesting it was unavoidable or describing it as the will of God is what Nigerians use to destroy the country

Who is Nigeria....
Its our collective irresponsibility that is bringing Nigeria down
Everyone speaks as if there is a third party that is responsible for the failure.
A lecturer who collects money to pass a student will also be shouting Nigeria is a failed STATE
Parent who pay for special centre for their Children to write examination will say the same thing.
A nurse of Doctor will never show empathy to a patient in excruciating pain.....will say the same thing
Nigerians have failed the Country

O had a similar experience with my sister in 2022 ,I am still crying now because the death was avoidable if the doctors were not lackadaisical as you have stated here
As regards health issues in Nigeria we are in God's hand, people in Nigeria survive through God's grace, no government
