AFCON: From Grass To Grace: European Club Eyes Nwabali After His AFCON Heroics
ibireport.comFeb 8, 2024 12:01 PM
Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali’s career is set to take an interesting turn after his two penalty saves against South Africa in the AFCON semi-final caught the attention of football investors.
The goalie, according to Soccernet, is the subject of interest for a Belgian club following his performances at AFCON.
The Belgian club, Union Saint-Gilloise reportedly assigned scouts yesterday to look out for Nwabali following his impressive performances so far.
Nwabali, 27, was a shock inclusion in Jose Peseiro’s first eleven against Equatorial Guinea as the Portuguese tactician opted against starting Francis Uzoho.
Since Nigeria’s opening game in Ivory Coast, Nwabali has made the number-one spot his own, keeping two clean sheets and making big saves to keep things tight at the back.
The goalie yesterday referenced the trending 2024 slogan, “No gree for anybody”, in his post match interview after Nigeria’s thrilling victory over South Africa.
Nwabali, who was overwhelmed with emotion, told the interviewer, “You know the slogan, you no go gree for anybody”.
He also spoke about the upcoming AFCON final against Ivory Coast, saying he hopes Nigeria wins the tournament.

The truth is no different between those south Africans and Yorubas people.

They have no right to condemn south Africans after what they did in last presidential election by attacking other tribes in their region.

If they have oduduwa they will do worse than south Africans.

Those south Africans are assh!ole, Nwabali will get better club in better country.

Nwabali we love you and your head no matter what Shape it is as far as we are concerned it is a beautifully blessed head

It is the best and most beautifully shaped Head to ever knock a football away from the Goal

Did SA expect him to leave the Goal empty.because he plays there?

In the book of proverbs 22 verse 29, the skill of a man opens doors but in Africa, particularly Nigeria and south Africa very skilled people have the doors shut on them

Igbos continue helping your country to win,any day they stop, there will be nothing like Nigeria in any competition, be it AFCON or world cup
People like you make us recognize the damage done due to the removal of history by our evil corrupt politicians. But we will not go the dirty, childish and ignorant route you choose. We will make everyone benefit from your path.

Are you aware that students and staff Obafemi Awolowo University took different actions against the government of South Africa during apartheid?
OAU admitted some South African students who fled their country and gave them FREE EDUCATION.

Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo spoke at the opening of the August 1977 UN sponsored World Conference for Action against Apartheid and warned that Nigeria would go against governments and companies doing business with the rogue government of South Africa. This is part of what led to British Petroleum becoming AP.

Google 'Justice Akinola Aguda' and find out how he became the first Chief Justice of Botswana and his constitutional roles.

Read the biography of Thabo Mbeki, former SA President and his life in Lagos, Nigeria.

Students at the University of Lagos were regularly involved in anti-apartheid protests back then. Today, UNILAG has Mandela week.

I do not know your age but if you were around in 96, the schools, offices and streets of Lagos went wild when Apartheid was over. Students learned the speeches of Mandela and we even knew their national anthem.

Let me leave you with this letter by the Prime Minister

Very true, back in my primary school days, primary 3 precisely apartheid was the most confusing word I came across over the wall that holds the black board/ It is written, "Apartheid is a crime against humanity" I think the people before our set normally recite it every morning once the teacher comes into the classroom.

Late 80's precisely, defunct Ifo-Otta local govt. The joy of Nigerians/Lagosians when Mandella was released cannot be overemphasized. I think there was a national holiday in Nigeria and for weeks, we were watching a film about his life in prison, he was our hero as much as the south Africans.
