So how much do you think you'll spend on fuel when you factor in the traffic?

80,000 a day or two days.

That should be fair

Like too small? I thought so too but he still has like 100k+ left in his calculations. So if you adjust accordingly, you'll still come to the conclusion that it's just enough to get by if you don't mind saving money and all you do is pay bills while living a fairly decent life.

School fees are going up. Practically doubling in cost. Na why that cost get k leg

700k will get you a 2 bedroom in Ikorodu, or deep inside Amuwo

grin grin grin

Let me learn!

700 - 800kk would get you half a semi detached flat in 2013. I don't know what 700k will get you in 2024

This is a fair view of the matter . For someone who has been earning 600k before subsidy was removed and dollar floated , he will struggle to adjust to the new realisty.

However for someone what has never earned close to that region of income before , if he starts earning 600k today he will be more than happy to even add more expenses instead of cutting down on his expenses .

Exactly the point

Prospa seems to be looking at it from the viewpoint of the bolded and he's right.

It's not just the only viewpoint.

600K is a lot of money, but it's not so much really.

TYPICAL MONTHLY EXPENSE FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR ( BOTH KIDS ABOVE 3 YEARS)
NEPA + Fuel for house - 30K
Rent per month (2 bedroom flat) - 65K
Fuel for the family car - 60K
Feeding for family, including base food the kids take to school - 120K
Snacks for kids to school - 16K
Toiletries - 10K
School fees for both kids per month - 50K
Black tax - 15K
Clothing allowance for the family - 20K
DSTV Compact - 14K
Data for family - 20K
House bills - 5K
Car maintenance per month - 10K
Offering - 5K
Miscellaneous - 40K

TOTAL - 480K

I might be forgetting a thing or two, but in my opinion, this should be about monthly expenses for a lower-middle to a proper middle-class family, especially in Lagos (mainlands of mainland grin).
how family man go dey use 20k data?

If they person is living in surulere, yaba, ekki etc, he has to relocate his familly to ikorodu to be able to pay that 65k rent. In surulere, you'll be talking about over 100k per month for a 2bed flat. Lol. Or he will move from 2bed to a miniflat. And this proves Izzous point of cutting your coat...and equally proves prospers point of stepping down because the money isn't enough to afford the things you use to have before.

With the price of clothes today, one polo or Jean don collect that 20k o. Lmao.

Infact with the prices you listed, e go tough to afford them at those prices, judging by what's obtainable in the market.

Na katangua "bend-down-select" the family go dey wear be that o. grin Because for real it will be difficult for a man with two kids and wife to spend 20k on clothing.

I think if the man earns 600k and the wife brings home an income of at least 250k to 300k the family will live comfortably well.

The discussion from the beginning was whether 600k is enough for someone monthly.

And i can remember saying "Depending on how you cut your coat"

It can be enough and it cannot be enough.

What i find funny is how he uses his reality of a family person to conclude. Which one be certification and 40 people begging?

People are surviving with less than 600k a month. That's enough proof to argue against

It depends on your lifestyle, the amount you claim is not enough, Some family survive on less than half of it in a month
Only that they wont enjoy the luxury you enjoy

Even the 600K some people finish it in a day

I have not said it is the ideal amount for luxury.

I simply said 600k can take care of you depending on how you cut your coat.

If you're spending this much on data, get starlink, it sorta pays for itself within a year especially if you're in a space you can share the data. 38k per month split across 3 persons that work from home is relatively cheap. The upfront on ordering and installing the STARLINK is like 500k sha.

600k might not be enough to sustain the lifestyle of someone who was earning it before, but it's okay to sustain the life style of someone earning 50k before which is where Izzous point comes in. You see it's not absolute.

Look at the breakdown Theflint1 just posted. It's truly not a lot or money in today's Nigeria but its just enough to bet by.

How many person's dey earn 50k get family of four grin

A person earning 50k then to 600k would most likely be going from unmarried to married, and 600k would give them a pretty comfortable life.

Add cooking gas one cylinder per month.
Add something for the dad. Booze, suya something.

You also need to add something for unexpected /emergency.

Big men full this thread, I tell you

You know everyone is a millionaire online

When we had the MT conversation here and some people dey complain say all that responsibility for 1.4m a month no worth am,
I spoke to different people and asked how is a salary of the average Manager in Nigeria top organizations and I found out most managers in the big organizations (not Oil companies) earn around 1.5m or less

Big 4 Manager earn like 1.3M a month and a Manager in a Bank earns slightly more
That is a manager with about 10-15yrs post NYSC experience probably more in a Bank (Some banks na 20yrs plus before you smell manager)
The thing come be say there are thousands of employees under Manager cadre who are considered to be big boys in their own levels

In a typical Bank for one manager there will be over 300 people under Manager cadre who are considered middle class

This chart below after taxes and deduction na under 2m a month, closer to 1.6M a month depending on how your organization handles taxes

Going from 50k to 600k is a rarity (I'm talking miracle like winning bet) .
There's almost always a progression which is matched by your expenses.
Exactly, anybody making that jump is probably going from post-NYSC to job market, not someone that's running a family of four already.

Lmao.. The fuel for family car, I'm guessing it's a jeep but let's assume it's a car that 30k can fill the tank so a small economy vehicle. Likely a kia😁

How many times in a month are they filling the tank? 😁? Let's start from there.

65k is a 780k for rent.
So meaning they live in an area that is cheap (using Lagos). Meaning the traffic situation is bad because most cheap areas on the mainland in Lagos usually have traffic issues. See I used most oo.
780k for a 2bedroom flat is a miracle except in Ikorodu, deep inside ago or Festac, even satellite Don
Increase in rent and you'll deal with traffic.
Meaning more fuel consumption 😁
Dem recently increase my rent from 650k to 800k, and it's Ogba, and traffic is light. But the 4 bedroom above me, that they let out last year, was for 1.5m per year. I know anything that sends me house hunting now would see me spending around that 1.1 to 1.3, and still within Ogba.

I said depending on how you cut your coat, 600k will take care of you well. You have agreed.
