Onanuga emphasized that 26 state governments out of 36 are unable to fully comply with the current minimum wage. He questioned whether the federal government would be able to pay a higher minimum wage, given the existing financial constraints. This statement was made during an interview with Arise Television, where he highlighted the low revenue, high domestic and foreign debt, and the substantial percentage of revenue consumed by debt repayment. Apart from the fact that more than 90% of state governments cannot pay it due to their ridiculously low internally generated revenue, the effects on inflation will be worse than what we have now. The ideal the government should do now is about 50-60k.

FG already added 35k (wage award) to the normal 30k (minimum wage), making it 65k - though not being implemented fully. Anyone expecting more than 70k as the highest FG can pay will be dreaming.
