How Many Days And Nights Are There Between Friday And Sunday? by Mayntheemaynn(op):
How can we fit three days and three nights between a Friday afternoon crucifixion and early Sunday morning? Some Christian apologetics try to explain this by suggesting Jesus was killed on Wednesday, and that there were about two Sabbaths taking place back to back.

https://www.ucg.org/the-good-news/jesus-wasnt-crucified-on-friday-or-resurrected-on-sunday-how-long-was-jesus-in-the
But this is incorrect, as Jesus was killed on Friday, the day before the Sabbath.

I will be using the Gospel of Mark to explain this because it is the earliest to be written among the Gospels.
Some things to note:
The Book of Mark only mentions "3 Days" (Mark 8:31, Mark 9:31) and not "3 Days and 3 Nights." Additionally, the reference to Jonah is missing in the Book of Mark. Only the Gospel according to Matthew among the Gospels uses the reference of Jonah with the "3 Days and 3 Nights" in Matthew 12:38-41.

Mark 14:1-2.
1 Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 2 “But not during the Feast,” they said, “or the people may riot.”

Mark 14:1 tells us of TWO upcoming events. Verse 2 states that the Pharisees and scribes cannot arrest Jesus on the day of the Feast because of the crowd, echoing Mark 12:12. Therefore, the only other event during which they can arrest Jesus is on the Passover, when he won't be with the multitudes.

Mark14:12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?-
Mark 14:12 talks about the first day of the unleavened bread, which simply means the Passover. The disciples prepared the Passover as directed by Jesus (Mark 14:16), and later that evening, Jesus and his disciples went to have the Passover.
Mark 14:17-- When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve.

After Jesus had finished the Passover, Mark14:46 tells us that Jesus was arrested. He was then brought before the high priest and charged with blasphemy. According to Leviticus 24:16, "Whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him.....".
The next morning, which was the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Mark 15:6), they brought Jesus to Pilate, and Jesus was crucified later that afternoon at 3 p.m.

Mark 15:42- It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached.
The Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread is also the Same Day as the Day of Preparation, which is the day before the Sabbath. The Sabbath is on Saturday. This means that the day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread was Friday, the day Jesus was killed, while Jesus was arrested on Thursday, the Day of the Passover.

Mark 16:9, although confirmed as a later addition, states that Jesus rose early on Sunday, the first day of the week. However, Mark 9:31 says, "They will kill him, and AFTER three days he will rise." Following this, Jesus was killed on Friday, and after three days will be Monday not Sunday.

Did Jesus ever meant the 3 days to be taken Literal or as a Parable? The disciples struggled to understand parables, as indicated in Mark 4:13 and Mark 7:17-18.
The Book of Matthew attempts to explain this "3 days" by referencing the Book of Jonah and his concept of "three days and three nights." However, the Book of Johah is not considered historically accurate by most scholars.
The Wikipedia page on Jonah about sums it up: “The consensus of mainstream biblical scholars holds that the contents of the book of Jonah are entirely ahistorical. … Many scholars regard the book of Jonah as an intentional work of parody or satire. If this is the case, then it was probably admitted into the canon of the Hebrew Bible by sages who misunderstood its satirical nature and mistakenly interpreted it as a serious prophetic work.”

But not only that, even Jewish Scholars and Rabbis regard the Book of Jonah as a Midrash and not a historical narrative. A midrash is a type of biblical interpretation that delves into the deeper meanings behind the text using Allegory and Metaphor. In the case of the Book of Jonah, it is seen as a midrash that thoroughly explores the theme of Mercy and Repentance.

If evening and morning makes one day, how many days do we have between Friday and Sunday?

It was mark that said "after 3 days".

That was why the bible reported the time of death which many say is about 3pm.

And evening starts around 4pm or 6pm depending on whose calculation you use so, its 3 days.

You still have not gotten it. When does Friday start?
Re: How Many Days And Nights Are There Between Friday And Sunday? by sonmvayina(m): 1:54pm On Apr 03
I was having a conversation with a Christian friend last night about some of the reasons I do not believe the gospel accounts of the death and resurrection are reliable… one such reason was when Jesus Christ was actually crucified.

I told him this isn’t some obscure detail….it’s the central event of the entire story. And yet when you line up the accounts, they don’t just differ slightly, they contradict in a way that cannot be reconciled.

I started with the Gospel of Mark. In Mark, Jesus eats the Passover meal with his disciples…that’s the Last Supper. After that, he’s arrested overnight, tried, and then crucified the next mornin at about 9 a.m. (Mark 15:25). So in this account, the crucifixion happens after the Passover meal.

Then I showed him the Gospel of John. Here, everything shifts. Jesus is still before Pontius Pilate around noon on the day of Preparation of the Passover ….the very day the Passover lambs are being slaughtered (John 19:14). That means Jesus is crucified before the Passover meal, not after. So in one account, Jesus eats the Passover, in the other, he dies before it even happens.

My friend tried to say maybe it’s just a minor timing issue. But it’s not. This completely changes the sequence of events. In Mark, the Last Supper is the Passover meal. In John, it can’t be…because Jesus is already dead before the meal begins. You can’t have both.

Then I asked him why John would move it. And that’s where the real issue comes in. John is the only gospel that strongly pushes the idea of Jesus as the “Lamb of God.” So what does the author do? He places Jesus’ death at the exact time the Passover lambs are being slaughtered in Jerusalem. This is not history shaping theology…it’s theology reshaping history.

Once you see that, it’s hard to unsee. The timeline isn’t just reported differently…it’s reworked to make a symbolic point. And that raises a bigger question I asked him directly…if the author is willing to change the day of Jesus’ death to fit a theological message, what else in the story has been adjusted for the same reason?

At that point, he didn’t realy have a response. Because this isn’t something you can harmonize without doing violence to the texts. Jesus cannot both eat the Passover meal and die before it. He cannot be crucified the morning after and the afternoon before at the same time.

This really clearly shows that these accounts are theological narratives written by believers shaping the story to express what they believed. And once that door opens, the reliability of the entire narrative becomes a serious question.

If t.he drughs you took hadn't fried ya, you would have known that day of preparation is not the Passover day.
