Cornelius was a high-ranking soldier in the world's most powerful army at the time. Although not a Jew, he showed significant piety. So much that an angel was sent to tell him how his gifts have been recieved and prayers answered. Remember that he wasn't a Jew and was under no obligation to worship God. The angel lauded Cornelius, but reminded him of his nature - unsaved. He urged him to send for Peter who will tell him words by which he will be saved. Had Cornelius disobeyed, he would have died unsaved. This is major. We have people who uphold the moral standards of the Bible ("the ten commandments" , recieve answers to their prayers but aren't saved. Cornelius would had been a deacon in most of our churches today. So it's not about what you do nor the results you have. It's about whom you have believed. What did you hear that got you "saved"? A man cannot be saved without hearing the gospel. That said, we should see the need to constantly reach out to the unsaved, knowing that they aren't only found in the pubs but in our various churches too. No one wants to be the best sinner that went to hell. A man who fears God, lives right, receives answers to prayers and see angles will go to hell if he doesn't believe the Gospel |

Perfectbeing:1. Cornelius may not have been a Jew — a descendant of the lines of Benjamin, Levi, and Judah—, but he was however an Israelite. This is from the fact that the angel lauded him as being righteous. Righteousness in the land was attainable only by those who had the blood of Jacob in them. ![]() 2. The God of Israel declared that He only responds to the prayers of those whom He had deemed righteous by His standard; the offerings and prayers of the unrighteous are an abomination to Him. All this means that no matter how pious you may think yourself to be if you are not of the blood of Jacob and are not approved righteous by God Himself, He will never answer your prayers. And He does not lie nor change His mind. ![]() Cornelius got the answer to his prayer because the Lord approved him as righteous by way of his deeds — Ezekiel 18 vs 1 - 31 & Ezekiel 33 vs 10 - 20 — as the angel had announced. Non-Israelites were not given the same privilege by the God of Israel. So, the claims made by your many deacons in your many churches are not the God of Israel answering their prayers. Rather, they likely confuse God's mercy which is poured out on even the atheists, pagans, and Babalawos out there, as God's answers to prayers. ![]() |

Kobojunkie:Excuse me. Cornelius was a centurion (Roman soldier). He was a gentile and not an Israelite. Even the account, in Acts 10:10-45,of how Cornelius was converted was another proof he was a gentile and not a Jew. In fact in verse 28, when Peter met Cornelius, he said, "...it was an unlawful thing for a Jew to be in the company of a aNOTHER NATION but God have showed me that I shouldn't call another man unclean..." That shows Cornelius wasn't a Jew or Israelite as you wrongly believe. In fact, he's most times regarded as the first gentile that converted to Christianity. Also what you attacked is totally different from what I posted. I said Cornelius was unsaved even though he was good cos he hadn't believed in Jesus and it was until he believed that he was declared saved. |

Perfectbeing:1. What part of being a centurion meant Cornelius could not have been a descendant of Jacob as well? What part of being a gentile meant he could not have been an israelite? God destroyed the nation of Israel in 700 BC leaving those of the other 10 tribes of Israel without a nation of their own for a period of over 600 years before Jesus Christ showed up— they were gentiles. So what made it utterly impossible for an israelite -- not of the Jewish tribes --- born in the diaspora to enter the ranks of the Roman army either as a free man or a slave? ![]() 2. The angel of God described Cornelius as having fulfilled the requirements of the Old Law — Just — the only standard of Justification in existence at the time given only to the children of Israel by God of Israel. He was not "unsaved". ![]() |

Of course he WAS a soldier but remember that Jesus ordered his disciples to made disciples of people of all the nations and TEACH them all the things he commanded {Matthew 28:19-20} so after Cornelius became a Christian he must RESIGN from the army because he need to love his neighbours like himself {Mark 12:31} love his fellow believers just as Jesus loves {John 13:34-35} and love his enemies even PRAY for them! Luke 6:27-28 So if Cornelius wants to continue as a member of the house of faith in Christ Jesus he must resign from the army! ![]() |

Perfectbeing:Romans 10:9 So you will be saved, if you honestly say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 1. What intoto (i.e. leaving no stone unturned), is the gospel? 2. Is there any opportunity (i.e. any last minute reprieve chance, given at the judgment seat, the final judgment of humanity, Romans 14:10) after physical death, given, to acknowledge and confess with mouth that Jesus is Lord (i.e. recognizing and accepting His power, authority, and majesty as God), and believe in the heart that God raised Him from the dead, to transmute circumstance into you will be saved? (i.e. Romans 10:9) Personal text: Jesus is not a theologian. He is God who told stories. |
