LOL. Blackface was not even Soundcity-worthy, not to mention MTV Base and Channel O which Faze was a regular on post-split.

Blackface's music videos were always those Ajegunle-themed ones, with towels and rough-looking guys of the Galala and Suo set. Not different from Marvelous Benji.
African China hit too but he was still an Ajegunle, Ghetto brand artsite.

Faze was on a higher level. Had almost the class and finesse to his songs and music videos like 2Face. Go watch their music videos from that era to compare and contrast.

Comparing post-split BlackFace to Faze is disrespect.

Blackface was not an Ajegunle musician, this man. Marvelous you are talking about sef was signed to Kennis.

The Ajegunle music you are making out to be bad was even hotter than most mainstream guys back then. They just didn't have the right structure.

Drop hit for hits between Ghetto Child and Faze alone.

What do you mean by soundcity worthy?

No be money them dey use put music for those platforms?

No be money them dey use do video? Blackface was an independent guy which was his downfall. He won be oga.

But for that first solo album o, Blackface floor Faze by a mile.

Hmmm not really a laughing matter. It got to a point my parents were doubting whether those guys were his brothers or just “brothers” in the African sense, until their mum visited.

Terrorising your own brother over unreasonable church doctrine. Church doctrine that has since changed.

Baba this thing was real.

One of my closest friend till date; his dad was "olori ijo" (i.e founder) of one Cherubim Church. Nomally his dad had 2 wives while he was still in the world and when he eventually became a clergy their doctrine didn't make it mandatory that he divorced either of the wives like some other church doctrines requires.

Now that my friend has a much older stepbrother who was already a graduate while we were in secondary school. Could u believe that this bros lives like just 4 to 5 streets away from his father's house yet he doesn't visit. He completely recused himself from associating with his family members. Even when he sees my friend when that one passes by his house; he just greets him like u would greet a random person u know.

Why? Because the bros joined Deeper life and didn't want to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. His own father who is equally a Christian but of different denomination is an unbeliever, his own siblings and step siblings who still reside with the father are unbelievers embarassed

The funny thing is the bros didn't grow one bit! When their father died and he came for the burial, the egbon still be like that person wey I know him to be. He didn't dress properly, didn't have people come thru for him; he was just looking like person managing to survive but too proud to seek help from friends and families he didn't want to be unequally yoked with. AJ had crazy influence back then. They were not just successful in the business part of the music. No structure.

China and Oriste Femi started rebranded kind of, and that's why they became successful in terms of money kind off.

Blackface's biggest song post-split was a remix of P-Square's "Do Me' called " Erimma".

Before that, it was some ragga-styled song called "Hard Life" in the category of the Marvelous Benjis. His music was Ajegunle-themed. Ghetto-themed.

Faze had his music on MTV Base, Nigezee, and the likes, and did shows outside the country.. He was bigger and more successful post-split. Only paled when compared to 2Face the colossus. But then 2Face was bigger than everyone.

Blackface sang "Erema" in 2006 whereas Psquare sang"Do me" in 2007(Game over album).
So its Psquare that took Blackface song beat and rhythm not the otherway round.

Na blackface use their beat. He said it.

But his reason was that they used their line in "Say you believe me" in Plan B.

The line:
"I like the way you do me... Say na you wey matter for my life"

Blackface was a star, of course. Ajegunle music was good too, but nothing close to the finesse and class the likes of PSquare, 2Face, Faze, and the main boys brought on.

Drop hit for hits between Ghetto Child and Faze alone.

Duncan Mighty had more hits in his first album than both combined but he was a regional artiste, sadly. All his songs are evergreen and still strike hard.

Crossing over was what defined stars. Faze did it, with airplays on pan-African TV stations. Blackface didn't.

What do you mean by soundcity worthy?

No be money them dey use put music for those platforms?

If you'd put it this way, we could say Original Stereoman and Danfo Drivers floored Blackface and Faze too. Floored a lot of artistes for that 2003 - 2005 stretch.

But they were still Ajegunle-styled artistes without that embracing finesse which PSquare, 2Face, and even Faze had - finesse which translated to transnational acceptability. This was what set them apart.

Blackface sang" Erima" but did not released it that year. psquare released "Do me" off Game over album and it went viral. Later, Blackface released Erinma.
Back then, story from the street was that the producer sold Blackface Unreleased song beat to P-square, some said that it was Blackface that actually sold the beat to psquare.
Surprisingly, years later Blackface called P-square out for stealing his song beat(unreleased by the time "Do me" was released).

Do you remember?

Every hit song in Nigeria was stolen from Blackface, according to Blackface Reporters.

Let's get this straight: A designer brainstorms on a product idea with a UI/UX design. He draws up a wireframe of it. You heard about it but backed away from it.
And since it's just a rough work, I build on the same design, build the actual product, do product-market-fit, onboard users, scale it, win awards with it, then when you see I've succeeded with it and built loyalists around it, you build a similar product, same design and everything then change the name and tagline, but I am the thief?

Absurd, right? That's exactly how Blackface's claims come across. He'd have been the one paying for damages if PMAN actually functioned.

Junior and Pretty were maybe the first wave.

The main stars then were Showkey, Fryo, and Ras Kimono. China and Benjy came slightly after. Mountain black was early or mid 2000s and not from that era at all.

There was a film called Lagos Na Wa about a nigga called Solo that moved to AJ city. Onome was another blockbuster set in AJ in that era.

I lived around Gbagada/Bariga axis at the time, and despite practically living in a Ghetto where my family house still stands, and my grandmother still lives in, I was absolutely terrified of the mythos of AJ city.
