I hope that boy doesn't listen to you. It's a new job. Let him rent at Iyana Oworo first and do like one year, then he can start seeing if he needs to pay exorbitantly for accomodation or not within that one year. I believe he has made a right decision at the moment

It’s not a new job. I know the boy and the job than you do. He has rented on the island and he is happy he did.

Very foolish advice, coming from a lazy personality…

Kobo-wise, Pound f00lish. We know your type. Small talk ‘ I am a landlord’. Landlord inside bush. No road. No light. No security. No good water. House worthless. Health challenges here and there. Shouting and begging on local radio station for government to come to their aid.

Government has not taken care of the city, you are shouting to government to come and help you in your dungeon. Who send you go there?

Ser Awon “A n ko lo si ile wa.”

Your body go tell you when the health challenges start showing.

WHEN I LOOK BACK 7 YEARS AGO, I WILL SAY THANK GOD FOR THE DECISION TO RELOCATE OUT FROM SURULERE TO A TOWN IN OGUN STATE, THOUGH I STILL WORK IN THE MAINLAND, INITIALLY, THE PROCESS OF GETTING TO WORK EVERY DAY WASNT EASY, BUT ON A LONG RUN THE DECISION WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER MADE. TO THE GLORY OF GOD, WHEN WE WERE HIT BY COVID EVEN WHEN OTHERS WERE CRYING OF NO FOOD, WE HAD IT MORE ABOUNDANCE THERE, MORE SO, MY DECISION FOR RELOCATING OUT OF S/L TO A TOWN IN OGUN STATE AND STILL WORK IN LAGOS AND SAVED ME ALOT FROM THIS HASH ECONOMY REALITY

THE TRUTH IS THAT LAGOS IS OVER HYPED AND IT IS SATURATED FOR YOU TO LEAVE COMFORTABLE IN LAGOS, YOU MUST LEAVE IN A COMFORTABLE RENT OF ABOVE N700K TO N1.5M EVERY YEAR. ANYTHING LESS THAN THAT RENT IS A SHIFT FOR ME KIND OF LIFE.
Which town in Ogun state? Agbara, Atan, Lusada, Opic, Morogbo or where cheesy

My brother, use your money to buy peace of mind and good health. It’s not every time you think of saving money on what’s not worth it.

A boy just got a job on the Island and his housing allowance is 1.8m. He was saying he would go and get a room self-contained at Iyana-Oworo for 300k. I told him get a good house around surulere or Yaba.
If there is a self con on the island going 1.3m on the island, don’t hesitate to pay.

You can’t quantify your longevity for st.upid savings you feel you would make.
Lots of younger people have d1ed due to all this I wan live in my house or I wan save. Na bricklayer (that you call engineers 😁😁) wey build the house dey samankwe the madam of those house owners after the house owners’ death. How can you be waking up 4am everyday and be getting home 11pm everyday?

A man reported to a colleague of mine that he would d1e if he didn’t pack out of his house he ‘built to taste’. That’s the way he said it that day. This is a house he built around ‘Logburo (closer to Nestle plant around Papa-lanto-Shagamu Road.
The man has packed to the city to rent a better house.

It’s not compulsory to become a landlord in Lagos or it’s environ and be suffering.

Use your money to rent befitting and comfortable house closer to your office. You are not wasteful so far your housing allowance can pay for it.

Build you country home in your town or village.
I would rather rent a very comfortable house closer to my office then go far.

I have always lived 15 minutes away (maximum) to my office. I have lived 2 minutes away in some. Some 6 minutes away.

You will save on transportation, inconvenience, medical health bills and your productivity would be enhanced. Your mental health too would improve.

With all due respect not all fingers are equal. I would have loved to rent close to my office, ie Yaba, bariga or surulere but lagos landlords seems to be a different breed of greed

Rent in lagos is crazy.

My office is in Yaba and what I've been seeing is way above my budget(400-500k)

How can mini flat be going for 1.2m excluding other charges.
I am seriously considering going to ikorodu since I only have to come to work 3 times a week.

Is this feasible or are there other places where I can get something decent but closer than Ikorodu.

Those who are experienced please do share.

Mods.. Thank you.

Lagos is so overrated... Such terrible place to live!!! Their tap water smells so bad with a strange colour... You guys are really trying.

I not really impressed with what I've seen in the so called Almighty lagos.

People are just suffering in silence and can't complain. It's bondage. Lagos life isn't for me but I have no choice but to come here for the interim.

I have my business in Oshodi. I had to rent a decent face me and face you in Mafoluku. It was so peaceful. When marriage came in 2022, i kept looking for a decent room and parlour self contained in Oshodi, but what i kept seeing was a way higher than my budget. My wife managed with me with in the single room face me and you(always very uncomfortable for her). I didn't want to go to Ikorodu cos i have lived almost all my life there. I grew up in irawo, my father's house is still there. When it got dawned one me and it looked as if i didnt want to get a better apartment, i had to go to the same Ikorodu i refused for several years and i got a total package of a very decent room and parlour self contained in Grammar School for 450k. My yearly rent is 300k going forward. We have our seperate prepaid metre and a gated house.

I will advise you go to Ikorodu. I am afraid you might not even see a decent apartment for that 450k i paid just last year September.

It could be tiring at times i must confess, especially when going home, considering i won't close business until 9pm. So i spoke to my wife that i get a small room again in Oshodi. I have left my imitiql room i was paying just 5k every month as at then. Luckily for me, my church gave me a room in church where i sleep and go home every weekend now.

I am very relieved now. If you are not married yet, what i do is your best bet. If you are married and your wife understands, it is very okay too. I even wanted to pay 800k total package house last year, but all are bad and tatered houses. I bless God for my ijebu skill, and i later got what i have always wanted in a good location in Ikorodu. Keke to our Estate is always at Garage and it is still 200 naira and man doesnt even come back everyday.

If it won't work for you like mine, you can still rent it in Ikorodu and go to work and come back everyday..

Instead of relocating to Ikorodu, try Egbeda. Its closer to Yaba than Ikorodu and cheaper in terms of house rent. I have a friend who stays in a mini flat and pays 350k yearly. You are certain of at least 14hrs of electricity daily.

Consider Mile 12, Irawo, Ajegunle

Please watch out for flood-prone areas like Owode Onirin

the latest you should go is Agric

Ikorodu is okay.

30km from where to where?

It is even better that you get to go to the office 3 times in a week, Ikorodu should be fine.
Unlike before, BRT from Ikorodu is more efficient now so you'll be fine

when and how did BRT from Ikorodu become efficient?

With all due respect not all fingers are equal. I would have loved to rent close to my office, ie Yaba, bariga or surulere but lagos landlords seems to be a different breed of greed

You will see your choice. First of all you need to be informed and up-to-date. Being informed about what you want would make you pay less for the rent.
Categorize the area you are looking for into 3 and go for the middle one of that’s what your housing allowance can cover.
The employer that calculated the housing allowance that can get you a house for a place like Palmgroove, eg, doesn’t expect you to be living in Ikorodu. The employer is not cra.zy. It is we the employees that think we are smart.
Why do you think some employees are agile, up and doing, smart and being productive at work than some employees?
Good accommodation that is closer to work and with some amenities are responsible.
They get promoted than some.

If you live in Ikorodu, once’s it’s 4pm, you would be thinking of how to even, first of all, get closed to Agric and be thanking God.

If you are not lucky and go and get house around Ogijo and other far areas of Ikorodu, you are in for it.
I guarantee you that your health and finances would suffer for what you think you are saving.
You will run generator like maaad, think of how to buy fuel, repair it. How to get up early.

Where I live and still maintain the rent since 2015, I have never bought any generator in my live and it’s not that there’s 24/7 electricity there or that I pay anything exorbitantly.

If you don’t have good sleep in a day, the effect on your brain is like that of someone who took 2 bottles of alcoholic beer and is suffering from hangover. You may ask any doctor about this.

Consider not sleeping well for weeks and months and years because you get home late and wake up early to go work. Your immune system starts dropping and some vital cells start dying in your brain.

Sha be doing brain scan every year to see how vital neurons in your brain are shrinking.

Don’t listen to anybody who says you should go to Ikorodu o. They don’t like you. They are po0r and don’t value their health.
If it is only a room with a small mattress you can afford for now in a closer location to your office, it is good. Don’t dream of furnishing any room for now. Ensure you have basic hygiene things and maintain your office clothes and shoes. You don’t need tv sef in that room. You can watch and stream on your phone.
Any lady who doesn’t like your room like that should go to he!!
If you are not in a right frame of mind, you can’t perform well on any task given to you and you won’t get promoted. Don’t say na one mama or family member dey do you o.
You have to be happy and sound to give any task your best.

a mini flat would be 350k to 500k in those areas, engage multiple agents do not give them a dime they will find excuses for inspection fee stand your ground or just give them 2k for transport .......or find someone to stay with till you see a suitable house, rush renting in lagos is a bad idea

I was staying in Mushin before and working in Surulere. After sometime, I moved to ikorodu and still work in Surulere. Movement to work is not bad as long as you take brt bus. It is not that bad coming back home too. Just make sure your house is close to ikorodu garage not places like igbogbo, bayeiku, adamo, gberigbe and so on.

If you want to come to Ikorodu and live with ease, try and get house around Agric that is trekkable to bus stop or Jumofak that is trekkable to bus stop, don't go inside when rain falls you won't be looking for bike that will carry you and they use the opportunity to charge high price.
You will see a decent room and parlor for N300,000 or N400,000.
From Agric bus stop you will see BRT to Fadeyi straight and from Fadeyi, you will see yellow bus going to Yaba.
