Day169:No I don't think so bro. I still believe all states in Nigeria can do well if they all control their resources. Taxes taking from state by the federal government is much more than what the state generates. If all the states are allowed to control and all the taxes pay to them, they will all do well. Too much money in the centre, that's why ministers are looting in billions. |

If ports in Calabar becomes very active the revenue and business will spring up and surely redundant states like benue will benefit. Yorubas are playing dirty politics knowing that if calabar ports becomes very useful the east will prefer bringing goods through the ports than from Lagos. It's closer transporting goods from calabar to the North 1 Like 1 Share |

Truvelisback: Will you support resource control? Apart from oil, which other natural resources is being extracted and to generate revenue that is being shared? Kindly list them and how much is generated yearly. You whole Federal budget is benchmarked against oil prices. why is is so? |

I'm basically ashamed for OYO and ONDO states. These are two giants that should have ordinarily outgrown this hindrance but look where they found themselves. This should be a wake-up call. Time they invest in massive agriculture and agro-manufacturing chain. They have a ready market in LAGOS waiting. 1 Like |

DenreleDave: Oyo may even be generating more revenue than Enugu, but i think population is a major factor. |

What is the essence of creating States when they do not have the resources for self sustainability. And some are still agitating for more state, does creation of more states add value to the live of the masses. The government should merged some states as they are not qualified to be one. So, many states cannot survive if states are allowed to control their resources. 3 Likes |

Resource control should do the magic of salary payments in most states. |

Truvelisback: The problem of Bayelsa State is that they have a bloated civil service who come to work every day, gist, read newspapers and go home later. When the month ends, they start asking for salaries. 2 Likes |

Akwa-Ibom, Cross River should not be on that list if not because of the corruption of the political elites in both states. |

Re: 24 States Can’t Pay Salaries Without FG Allocation by commoditiesnig: 9:07am On Mar 07 |
Bro this is a very poor defense and silly excuse. Are you telling me that a whole oil producing state like Bayelsa can't innovate ways to generate Adequate IGR? Is Rivers not also employing Oil workers and generating adequate IGR? Even Edo state without oil is not on the list. Pls don't give such lame excuses ok. I'm also from S.S agitator: 1 Like |

pocom16: States don't have to depend on natural resources to thrive. This is the mistake we make. States will build hydropower plants and sell electricity to their neighbours, make money through agriculture, have state buses that convey passengers within and outside the state, etc. We just need creative minds to be in government. The worst of us work in public service... instead of the best. This is the edge that rich countries have over poor countries. With the way the US and China are investing in technology, you won't even know that those two countries are the world's biggest exporters of crude oil. In Nigeria, we get small crude oil come lose our sense. I laugh when people say that America has nothing. 3 Likes |
