The Anambra Truth, Peace and Justice Commission, established by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to investigate the remote and immediate causes of insecurity in Anambra state and by extension, the South East region has been submitted in a public presentation.

At the event held at Government House Awka, Governor Soludo commended the Chairman of the Truth Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu and Secretary of the Commission Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as well as the members of the Commission for their painstaking work, their commitment and the "historic" nature of the report and pledged to act swiftly on the Commission’s recommendations.

The Governor highlighted the report's potential to serve as a national framework for addressing security challenges.

Governor Soludo expressed concern about the impact of crime and violence on young people, calling their deaths an unnecessary waste when their forest camps are invaded to flush them out.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to achieving sustainable peace in the region, assuring citizens that he will "read every sentence" in the report and ensure its recommendations are implemented for a safer future.

He stressed the importance of community involvement, including religious institutions, in tackling the challenges, describing the necessary approach as a "crusade" requiring collective action.

Professor Odinkalu who was the former Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, noted that the biggest structural factor in violence in communities is the political economy of land and that whilst separatist agitation is a potent issue, the IPOB/ESN narrative as the major factor is not an accurate analysis.

"The Commission surveyed 66 communities in the state, documenting cases of traditional rulers, security agents, presidents-general, and community members who have disappeared and remain missing".

Imo state, Borno State, Zamfara and Gombe has far more kidnappings and banditry than Anambra
Even Abuja case is getting more serious by the day
