I don't know but for me, I do it so that the plane can crash.

Most planes crashes are caused by passengers who refuse to obey safety protocols.
They want to take selfie inside the plane.
They want to do whatapp video inside the plane.
They want to chat with friends on social media inside plane when the rules say'All phones should be switched off'

back in the days it may have been a safety concern for the plane, but in this day and age, it doesnt really matter any longer whether your phone is offline or not. planes today are so advanced that phone cant interfere with their system.

the reason why they tell you to shut down your phone is because of NEARBY CELL TOWER overloading... and has nothing to do with the plane safety itself.

you do know that most planes today offer internet right? so with internet on planes, anyone can use whatsapp or social media on planes (simply because you dont need cell tower service if you have internet)

Do you mean a phone that costs less than 1% of an aircraft will interfere with the technical operation of an aircraft? How come the aircraft does not interfere with my phone?
