The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Egba-land, and the Otun Ba'asegun of Egbaland, Chief Sunday Adekunle Majekodunmi has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo's biological father is an Igbo man from Onitsha, Anambra State.

The former Nigerian Army officer and a medical doctor, who celebrates his 90th birthday today (Monday), spoke in an interview with Daily Independent.

Majekodunmi, who claimed that Obasanjo comes from a very poor family, alleged that he never liked the Yoruba people who were in the army.

"You cannot say this is what Obasanjo did for us because he sorts of antagonised us," he said.

He claimed that it was a police officer who got Obasanjo's mother pregnant without giving him a name. According to him, it was the police officer who also helped Obasanjo to get enlisted in the Nigerian Army.

The former Chief Medical Officer to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), TY Danjuma, also claimed that Obasanjo's known father adopted him after his birthday because there was no intermarriage between Igbo and Yoruba peoples at the time.

He said, "There was this police officer who was a DPO (Divisional Police Officer) at Lafenwa that had an affair with Obasanjo's mother. But at that time, the Igbos didn't intermarry with Yoruba. He was posted out. After she had the child, his adopted father now adopted him (Obasanjo). Obasanjo's biological father was an Igbo man from Onitsha and a royal family for that matter."

He said, "If you see the picture of Obasanjo and the ex-DPO of Lafenwa, you will see that they look alike.

"When they ask him, he doesn't talk about it. You see some Igbo people like a Former Governor had once referred to Obasanjo as his cousin because he's from there. Obasanjo left Yoruba people to Igbo land to go and campaign for Peter Obi at Onitsha.

"If you look at Obasanjo's past, you will see that he has been very fair, more than fair, to the Igbos. He went to campaign for the Igbo Party presidential candidates at Onitsha."

"He has so many things that we know that he doesn't like to be reminded of. When he was joining the army, it was the DPO that gave him the backing and a good recommendation. That's how he left when he passed his GCE in Form 5 and he got into the army," the retired colonel added.

It's evident from the man's behaviour towards Yorubas.. the saga with Obas in Oyo confirmed his paternity. No true Yoruba son will treat Kings in Yorubaland in the manner that he did no matter the wrong they must have committed.
The reason he supported Peter Obi was because he wanted an Igbo man from his father's place to be President and most likely doesn't want a Yoruba President in his lifetime, nothing more, nothing less.

The connection some people are trying to make is flimsy at best. Just because of one man's lineage doesn't mean his support reflects the entire tribe's sentiments. OBJ's history is complicated, and it’s not wise to read too much into family ties. Many Igbos have their own political interests, and it’s clear they don't all align with Peter Obi. We should be careful not to paint with a broad brush when it comes to political affiliations. Politics is personal, and not everyone will follow the same path as their ancestors.
