Why I have decided to ignore this mindset over times on this thread, I must say, this mindset too is dangerously shallow and narrow. Democracy by definition is the government of the majority. The Nigerian model of democracy isn't and shouldn't be a basics of comparison because the people are not allowed to exercise the power vested in them by the Constitution to chose their leaders. No thanks to an entrenched system of rigging that is now the norm in our elections.
Democracy: "demo":= people, "cracy":= power.
Democracy means power to all the people as opposed to power to a selected group of people.
Once again, it is not about "majority" but about giving all the power to all the people.

In a federation in which each federal unit has its own interests, it is very silly to go by popular vote. If you do go by popular vote, then the units with less demography would have no power and their interests would be nul and void. That is not what "all the power to all the people" stands for. Democracy is not about marginalizing people !

In your nigerian case, if you gave each ethno-political group the same voting power irrespective of demography then the rigging would become impossible. Indeed riggers would only be able to shortchange their own ethno-political group, not the whole country. Indeed if the north wants a northerner as president, even if they claim 10 billion people voted for him in the north, that would not affect the electoral process, the voting power of each ethno-political group wouldn't change according to its population or rigging power.

Your system is not workable, and you guys don't see it, which is why you keep it and marvel at the fact it is not working each time you have elections. An other drawback to your system is the fact each group is trying to greatly increase its population and therefor the country is rapidly going through intense overpopulation.

@ghostagain... Every form of government is flawed, none is perfect, one of the flaws of democracy is marginalization. A Democracy can do little or nothing against marginalization. Nigeria dancing on a failed democracy, thats why the flaws of a democratic system is very visible.

well that was my point you are writing like you were in there 70yrs ago and knows the real story. You once asked me of a map with biafra on it, and i was like, you don't even know the history of the area occupied by your country but you were quick to paste a palestinian map. And when you talk about generation you should know that the palestinian of today is clearly different from the one of hundred of years ago Especially religiously

⚡Meanwhile on French TV, they are discussing how French soldiers can fight in Ukraine against Russian Army.

French Army Colonel Vincent Arbaretier talks about two scenarios for the actions of French troops in Ukraine:

The first is to concentrate troops along the Dnieper River.

The second scenario: Troops are concentrated on the border with Belarus.

“I think that these two options can be mixed, that is, send French troops along the Dnieper and around Kyiv to tell the Russians: do not go further, otherwise you risk coming under our fire, including our unconventional fire.”

⚡The majority of Germans (57%) are not ready to fight if Putin attacks Germany, according to Focus poll.

32% are ready to take up arms and “actively take part in defensive combat operations,” 11% are undecided.

At the same time, 75% are not confident in the defense capabilities of the Bundeswehr. And 68% view the war in Ukraine as a “threat to German security.”

Gambling with the lives of soldiers and also with nuclear war 😟
It seems these guys don't take into account that Russia has the world's biggest nuclear arsenal and biggest land mass.
This guy doesn't know that general iskander and colonel khinzal arrive at the war front before russian regulars do.

The term "power to all the people" means the right of all the citizens to participate in the business of government, and that right basically manifest from electing their leaders during elections, which MUST be free and fair to reinforce the notion that real power resides with the people--the sovereign, and it's only through them can the government derive its legitimacy. But, ALL of the people can NEVER agree on one thing in toto, hence the majority factor in order to reach a compromise. This is what every sane country that practice democracy is practicing. Anything else like the American EC system is not a democracy.

If you do go by popular vote, then the units with less demography would have no power and their interests would be nul and void. That is not what "all the power to all the people" stands for. Democracy is not about marginalizing people!.
There is what is called "representative democracy," which is best demonstrated by the federal system of government under which the social, economic, and political interests of units with less demographies are protected. Representative democracy through the auspices of popular voting does not nullify the power of those smaller demographies, nor does it relegate them to the background, like the die-hard EC system fans wants you to believe. Even the US practice representative democracy, with the EC system being the only aberration.

You just made me laugh. cool Using Nigeria to measure the efficacy of the majority vote pattern that defines a true democracy does not negate the fact that the system works perfectly elsewhere. The issue with Nigeria goes beyond mere demographic battle. When you have a political society where the political ideologies of the politicians are driven by greed and corruption, there is always going to be rigging, whether or not you divide the national voting pattern equally. That Nigeria is like this doesn't mean that the popular voting is trash. Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, and Canada are typical examples of countries that operate a federal system where the president or prime minister or whatever name they call him/her is chosen through a majority voting pattern, which, of course, differ among the aforementioned countries. And they are doing great by it. And all of them by operations agrees and conform to the idea that democracy is simply the government of the people in a majority format.

The idea of nationally distributing the voting rights equally does not exist anywhere operationally, and I can tell you that the American EC model actually create the problems you think it was meant to solve. I can update you more on this point.

Take care.

The banking loopholes Russia has used to stay afloat are closing

Several global banks that have helped Russia circumvent Western sanctions are now turning their backs on Moscow as the US has increased pressure to comply.

* New sanctions pressure from the US Treasury is reportedly pulling foreign banks away from Russia.
* Banks in the UAE, Turkey, and Austria are working to reduce their transactions with Moscow.
* This is disrupting Russia's oil trade, which is facilitated by some of these banks.

NATO has to treat the US fairly. The US was paying 90% the cost of NATO. It's more important to them than it is to us. We have an ocean in between some problems. We have a nice big, beautiful ocean. They took advantage of us.

Trump also said if he wins, he will not withdraw from NATO as long as the European members of the alliance pay “their fair share.”
