Burkina Faso banned indecent content on social media by passing a strict law

Burkina Faso's President, Ibrahim Traoré, and his administration have recently taken a bold stance to counter the perceived "degradation of moral values" on social media platforms. To achieve this objective, a new law has been passed to strictly punish the distribution of what they deem "inappropriate" content, especially content featuring partially nude individuals on popular platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

As per the new law, influencers who exhibit their bodies in a suggestive manner on social media networks are now at risk of facing up to two years in prison and a fine of up to three million CFA francs. The law's primary goal is to preserve Burkina Faso's cultural and traditional values and contain the spread of content that the authorities consider "obscene" or "degrading."

This decision marks a significant turning point in Burkina Faso's online content management, with the government taking serious steps to protect the nation's "social and moral stability" from the growing influence of social media platforms. The new law aims to safeguard Burkina Faso's cultural and moral values by regulating the content available on social media platforms
