Just few years back like 2021/2022 I used to see people posting their projects like (portfolio websites or something similar) for other developers to review and make comments but nowadays I don't usually used to see that anymore.
Are the newbies running away or what's is happening

It has to do with a different kind of coding. Machine Learning Algorithms.

Is a different kind of coding not still coding? When I was younger, procedural coding was the in thing. When we did AI courses, we used functional programming languages like Haskell.

At the end of the day, it's all coding and any developer must be able to evolve

The sentiment from a guy i always follow on nairaland is have your own project that brings $$. If programmers laid off had their own project bringing $$$ no effect whatsoever

On what it is being used for.

The end result of any software endeavour has always been the same, make humans more productive. Roger S. Pressman in his book on software engineering succinctly captured it when he said: Software is an end (for a software engineer) and the means to and end (for the software users). This philosophy has never changed. AI is definitely not about to change that. There was a time when software engineering was about building tools to make calculations easier. Today it's more about making life easier. Any dev who sees AI as a threat to his/her job is stuck in the past. I learned to code back in the day when we wrote raw code with notepad or some other text editor. When IDEs came along, there was so much rabble rousing that they would make programmers obsolete. Today it's AI. Morw of the same really. Machines (including AI) have come to make our jobs easier. Not replace the human

I believe the buzz surrounding the tech industry has diminished. In the years you referred to, individuals mastered the art of securing funds for their startup ventures, leading to generous salaries for many developers, which in turn drew more people into the tech field. Also, the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, once a major investor for tech entrepreneurs, led to numerous layoffs.

During that period, two groups benefited greatly from funding: tech startups and developers.
Now, the focus has shifted towards AI startups and their developers. The question is: can you create superior AI to attract funding, or can you offer valuable skills in this evolving landscape?

The issue is getting a job, you can still survive on your own, but it's a lot of work and uncertainty

Until AI can on its own be used by one person directing it to develop sophisticated web dev like X, FB, eBay, Alibaba, etc or even popular softwares we use everyday. Then its truly doomed from coders and developers.
Stop believing the AI hype.

It was related to creating and pushing branches on a github repo but I figured it out.
