Senator Garba Musa Maidoki of Kebbi South Senatorial District Raises Concerns Over Lack of Transparency in 2024 Budget Approval

In a recent interview with BBC Hausa in London, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has leveled serious allegations against the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly the Godswill Akpabio-led Senate, accusing them of operating without fairness and transparency, especially in the approval process of the 2024 budget.

Senator Maidoki expressed dismay over the lack of transparency surrounding the budget proceedings, stating that crucial details were withheld from newer members of the Senate, leaving them uninformed about the contents and allocation of funds within the budget.

"The Senate and, by extension, the National Assembly, is increasingly losing its independence and voice to speak to the Executives," Senator Maidoki lamented, highlighting the erosion of the legislature's autonomy. He emphasized that the National Assembly should serve as a robust check on the Executive branch but has instead become subservient to its whims.

Maidoki shed light on the secrecy surrounding the 2024 budget deliberations, revealing that newer senators were not provided with a comprehensive breakdown of the budget or given access to the full document during the debate process. He expressed frustration at being presented with only a summary of relevant figures, limiting their ability to scrutinize and contribute meaningfully to the budget discussions.

Despite attempts by himself and other concerned senators to address these issues within the red chamber, Maidoki disclosed that their efforts were stifled by various constraints, including warnings from committee leaders not to interfere with the budget document. He cited a lack of unity among senators, driven by personal and political interests, as a major hindrance to enacting meaningful change within the legislative body.

Maidoki further criticized the apparent lack of patriotism among his colleagues and expressed concern over the loyalty of lawmakers, suggesting a pervasive atmosphere of distrust within the Senate.

The senator concluded by asserting that the 2024 budget was passed without proper scrutiny or corrections, echoing the sentiments of many of his peers who were left in the dark regarding the allocation of funds. He emphasized the need for urgent action to restore transparency and accountability within the National Assembly to prevent further erosion of its integrity and credibility.

I said it when Opeyemi Bamidele turned a matter of public accountability to political talk of removing Akpabio and North vs South that there's something they were hiding.
Listening to his speech, it was easy to see that he knew something was done wrong, scratch that, a lot was done wrong concerning the budget.
The only way out was to politicise it and give their Internet dogs who majorly live on less than a dollar a day something to chew on. It worked!! The Zombies went to town singing Akpabio goes nowhere while the puppeteers pat themselves on the back for a job well done.
I'm sure they even got prayers in their mailboxes for pulling such wool over the face of Nigerians.
