Community groups gathered outside the federal immigration minister’s office in Montreal Friday morning to demand a stop to next month’s planned deportation of a local family originally from Nigeria.

Deborah Adegboye says she, her husband and first child were fleeing religious persecution in their home country when they entered Canada as asylum-seekers via the now-shuttered Roxham Road crossing in 2017.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.
Adegboye now works as an orderly, travelling between the homes of patients with disabilities offering assistance with basic tasks.

Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, a member of Quebec’s national assembly who was present at the demonstration outside Marc Miller’s office, said it is unconscionable that Canada would expel an essential worker during a labour shortage in the health care sector.

Adegboye said she sees the deportation order from federal immigration officials as a death sentence for her family, which now includes two more children who were born in Canada.

She issued a plea for Canada to reverse the deportation so she can continue to build a life for her children and care for her patients.

Obviously, she's lying! The family is lying by raising religious persecution. They are Yoruba and in Yorubaland there's no religious persecution. The 3 religion of Christianity, Islam and Yoruba traditional Isese religion exist side by side even in every family and community. She should have been honest enough to state the main reason instead of denigrating her place.

This is what you get when you build your lives on lies. Truth will eventually catch up with you.

If you check her background now, she's probably one of those educated with tax payers money and on graduation deserted the nation for a foreign country that made zero investment in their public education before leaving Nigeria.

We have patients in Nigeria too and we need more health workers too. Please come back home with dignity, your children are watching and learning from you if you build their lives on lies. They will grow up not seeing anything wrong with lying and denigrating their origin.

God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

Some Nigerians do not mind rubbishing every other Nigerian and dragging the name of the entire country to the mud if it will give them and their family alone the opportunity to relocate and remain abroad.

Applying for asylum in Canada and the UK doesn't make sense. Those two have nothing to offer and will have the time to investigate you back in Nigeria. You should only do that in the United States. God bless America!

They can always move to Lagos or Port Harcourt. That's what the Canadian immigration judges always tells them when refusing their application.

Anyway, government should sit up. Seriously

About 100million Christians in the Nigeria, what kind of religious persecution are you facing that they're not facing? I hope the asylum officials don't buy this bag of lies.

How is that religious persecution? Does ritualists give a damn about anyone's region affiliation?
Does killings for ritual purpose only exist in the SW ?

7 years of their lives wasted on the judgment of a court. Guys never leave Nigeria without the legal route, your dignity will never be the same if you move without the right papers. It's not worth it and people who take advantage of the system make it difficult for those who are really running away from persecution.

This experience will affect their kids more than them. People always think that they can hustle and move on fast but the psychological impact of these changes are greater than any money hustle can buy. Your kids will keep thinking like they are 3rd class because mummy and daddy said Nigeria is bad. Your kids will also grow up and make Nigerian friends over there and they will find out the truth. You cannot teach your children lies at a young age because you want a better life for them. They will never forgive you for making their lives miserable. It is a matter of time. Every parent does not need to teach a child what to do, they only show examples and kids will find out what is true and untrue.

My problem is those who don't allow innocent people chance. Na only u waka come embarassed

Anyone that lies just to leave Nigeria and live abroad is dangerous. The person can lie to put you in trouble, it has wider implications than the pity people give them.
