A country that has millions of people living below the poverty line. For a low income country like Nigeria, the threshold is 3.+ dollars per day. Let's say per dollar to Naira is 1200. I can say over 80 million Nigerians are not spending more than 4000+ Naira a day. Reason we were one time called the world poverty capital.

A country that has perhaps the lowest minimum wage in the world not just Africa.

How can the common masses survive now. People are saying is only Band A. Tor. Tinubu na beg we dey oh.

How come Nigerians didn't find their way around the NIN and BVN threats?

They know every single consumer under them. Why not take the Prepaid to each doorstep, install it, and deduct the price from the Units they buy?

Let them give each household prepaid meters, and let me see if they won't all turn to bakeries and primary schools in 6 months

grin

......how much is a prepaid meter?! ₦100k plus right?! Let's assumed about ₦200 homes and shops need meters in Alimosho LG, that will ₦20mili. Its not plausible bro.

What is not plausible?

It is not free. Install it, and let them pay for it through the Units they buy. Let us not even pretend as if Prepaid started at 100k. It was 33k plus when we got it then.

If any Disco get mind, let them install prepaid and let me see if they won't fold up by morning.

Na even hogwash be that. Discos are meant to provide meters for their consumers free of charge. Even the FG under Buhari intervened and procured meters for these same Discos and yet they refused to distribute it or just outright sell it.

They know what they are doing and that's why I'm annoyed with Adelabu.

Read that article.

Buhari gave these Discos 6 million meters to share for free to each household that are not currently metered, that was in 2020. How many people did these Discos actually gave the meter?

The little they gave out, it was sold.

Ogun go punish Adelabu once again for siding with the Discos who are perennial liars and exploiters over the masses. The thunder fit touch Tinubu sef.

Two Iranian officials quoted by The New York Times say Iran has put its military forces on “full high alert.”
The officials say Iran has made a decision to directly attack Israel in retaliation for an alleged Israeli strike on Monday that killed a top Iranian commander in Syria and several other Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members, and in order to create deterrence.

Izzou have u heard latest about the coastal highway ?

So Lagos state has been issuing notice to people with properties along the corridor where the road is to pass and Landmark resorts has been given a quit notice notifying him that the $200m resort will be demolished .

The man has come out to plead with the government to reroute about 1.5km out of the 700km so the property won't be destroyed . He mentioned how he got the land in 2007 long before there was any plan to construct any coastal highway so it's not as if he bought a land knowing fully well the government will demolish it one day.

The business employs 4000 Nigerians directly and 12,000 indirectly . Even if FG gives him compensation for demolishing his property ( which I doubt they will ) ; what happens to those people working for the company that are about to join the ever growing unemployed pool in the country ?

NERC.

If Cadbury is in Band A and you increase their tariff by 300%, the price of Bournvita will go up and those in Band Z where there is no transformer will buy at the increased price.

If they buy at higher price, they are the ones paying the 300% increase, not the manufacturer who you want to tax.

If consumers don't have the purchasing power to buy at the new rate, Cadbury will close down.

If Cadbury close down and others too follow, unemployment will increase.

If unemployment increases, insecurity will take a jump.

If insecurity jumps, the money you thought you're making will be diverted to security and it won't be enough.

That is why US, UK, France, Germany and all developed economy support their factories with billions invested in power subsidy.

Perhaps Iran should flatten a civilian building killing all members of a family including women and children; then tell the world that one of the occupants was an IDF reservist.

Israel asked for this.

BlueRayDick, do you know the backstory?

Did he get the appropriate approval for his property?
Or did he settle people to illegally build on that land?
If he got the approval required, how are they able to give him 7 days to evacuate? And I did not see anything in your post about government offering the commensurate compensation.

Well, I don't know the backstory about how he got the land but I remember sometimes back reading his interview on how he got the place I don't think he got the place illegally cos even if Government don't have his time, the neighboring oniru royal family who owns the Victoria island would've dragged his asss long ago .

https://nairametrics.com/2023/05/06/meet-paul-onwuanibe-landmark-groups-founder-and-one-of-the-lions-of-the-lions-den/?amp=1

And I seriously doubt if government plans any compensation whatsoever cos the Lagos state letter to the company was silent about that

If he got it legally then he should get an injunction against the government, in order to postpone or put a halt to their moves.

Abi is there something I am missing? Can government just wake up one day and decide to demolish anybody’s property because of a new plan cooked up after the fact?

If u are following the news of recent demolitions being carried out in Lagos , u will know government can do and undo in this country .

Around last month I listened to Nigerian Info 99.3 fm Lagos and residents of Jakande along Ilasan road came to express their plight.

The government came and serve them notice to vacate the place because government had planned the demolition of the place. The chairman and secretary of the residents association gave a backstory of how they happened to be occupiers of the place. They were initially occupying a particular land before as landlords ( I can't recollect the name again) , then the government had reasons to relocate them and allocated that Jakande to them with legal allocation letters o.

So now government wants to drive them away after spending more than 30 years there legally . Now the government is not even giving them grace to even look for alternative accommodation nor talk about compensation . They went to the house of assembly , they met their honorable from their constituency who has tabled the matter before the house and they expect the house to invite the perm sec and commissioner to discuss on the way forward.

Guess what? The next day the bulldozers got to the estate alongside several security operatives as early as possible with the sole aim of carrying out the demolition . As those guys were on radio talking , they said they are scared the houses may have been demolished before they get home sef.

Government can do and undo if the guy no get leg and mouth in the right places o

If Nigeria were to be an ideal society sef, the amount of compensation govt will pay to legal property owners along that corridor alone would discourage them from going ahead with the project .

100%.

With regards compensation , the property owners should tie them up in court first and get an agreement on the compensation amount before allowing their houses to be pulled down. Filing for compensation after the buildings have been pulled down is not the wise way.

I don’t know if class action suits is a thing in Nigeria. Dozens or hundreds of people affected can come together (if they don’t individually have the finances) and take such cases to court.

The wicked way government just callously destroys their own citizens’ homes and businesses in the name of redevelopment is crazy.

I guess the slow pace of property related cases in the Nigerian court system is one major factor why property owners are majorly handicapped and discouraged from taking the legal route of challenging these government's callous attitude of taking over people's properties without proper compensation .

Just look at the the magodo land issue that became a serious Matter sometimes last year when the original owners of the land wanted to take over the land in accordance with a Supreme Court judgement after Lagos state had sold the land to innocent people years ago.

Could u believe that the case had been decided at the appeal court level as at 1996 in favor of the original land owner and then finally decided at the Supreme Court in 2012. Can u imagine how long it took from Appeal to Supreme Court level . Only God even knows when the initial case was instituted at the high court level sef.

I'm sure it's the grandchildren of the original land owners that are pursuing prosecution of the court judgement now. Those court cases take too long !

Exactly.

AFTER the case has been decided in court, the government can move in and carry out the demolition. They can then build their highway.
Highway construction is not an emergency activity like emergency Caesarean section. It can wait until it is sorted out.

Filing for compensation after demolition just means it is your grandchildren that will get the compensation, if at all.

By Nigeria's land use act any governor at his leisure can revoke your c of o. The best you will get is paltry monetary compensation that will not match the value of your investment.

We have lost entire stations to LASG because they had designated the land as required for some govt initiative.

Yeah. But if I was in this Landmark owner's shoes I will first try and dialogue with the government to see if there's a way they can reroute the whole thing in order not to affect my investment that is providing jobs for fellow citizens.

If I get a negative response , then I will file for compensation ASAP and get an injunction restraining government from carrying out demolition immediately . If they decide to disobey the court order, no wahala . I will sha pursue my right to compensation to the last kobo.

Once I get the monetary compensation, I will never look back at ever investing in Nigeria ever again. I will face my business interests in other saner environment .
