boat operators to have lifejackets for
all passengers..

Again, as an educated and exposed person,
why would one take a long ride on a
speed boat without insisting on a life jacket.

The operators are good swimmers, do
Las las, them know say if worse happens,
they won't drown.

Even witnesses disclosed that it was the
carelessness and speed of the operator
that led to the mishap.

A sister of mine lost her life under similar
situation, but on land. The driver of the company bus was over speeding & amongst the people in thevehicle she kept raising her voice to the fellow colleagues to tell the driver to calm down, but everyone thought she was overreacting, until the vehicle summersaulted
and over 5 people including my sister perished😭😭😭

A very unnecessary death.

I think it's not correct to say "we don't watch", very many people actually do. Only problem is why go without the necessary precaution knowing that he can't swim and there is a chance things can go wrong. It's sad that in Naija life is so cheap.

One irony, many do the same like he did on a regular basis and get away with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of you shouting up and down that Nigeria happend to them, also criticised Nigeria when Lagos government sanctioned the demolition of buildings erected on water channel grounds. And shouted, let the poor breath!!, when various state governments demolish dangerous shanty dwellings.

Had the various state governments devised strict safety rules for the waterways, I bet many Nigerians on here shouting "Nigeria happened" would be first to condem the measures. They might make statements such as, 'did government first provide jobs or alternatives before clamping down on the livelihood of the poor?' and , ' how do these stupid leaders expect boat and canoe operators to buy lifejackets, when the dollar to Nigeria exchange rate is XYZ'

If government decided tomorrow to outlaw vehicles over ten years old as a measure against plunging over bridges and to outlaw ramshackle looking markets as a measure against fires, Nigerians would complain bitterly of elite abuse in the hope that America would hear.

A large percentage of us bare some responsibility in why Nigeria remains dangerously too free.

Mind you I like some of our freedoms but not overwhelming freedom.
