A Culture That Supports Illegal Activity But Calls For Political Change. by sirjamesjnr(m): 9:11am On Apr 12
From the Onitsha market (Anambra), to the Alaba International Market (Lagos), the supermarket, the big pharmacy, the mall, and the Balogun Market (Marina, Lagos), the Ladipo market (Mushin, Lagos), the Ariaria market (Aba, Abia), the Oil Mill market (Port Harcourt, Rivers), the Bridge-Head Drug Market in Onitsha and the Computer Village (Ikeja, Lagos), news outlets are inundated with stories every day concerning the manufacturing, importing, and selling of fake foods, medicines, and other goods to unsuspecting consumers.

Individuals who are part of the undesirable element turn a blind eye, even when those behind the covert companies are making a kill. Their acts have sent many individuals to their deaths or caused health complications, including physical disabilities, terrible reputations to our nation, etc. Big achievers among this element receive chieftaincy titles, and songs about their exploits disrupt the airwaves with acclaim.

I have fallen prey to this problem multiple times. I once had to call the Area H police force in Lagos to get money back for a computer that was purchased but turned out to be defective and a used one. I bought my girlfriend an expensive purse at Onitsha's Main Market, but it turned out the owner had concealed the ripped section. Many times, even when I pay the correct fee at the mall, supermarket, I have to return home with counterfeit beverages and inferior prescription tablets instead of the real thing. I will challenge any Nigerian family that has not been negatively impacted by some South Eastern nationality in the area of supplying fake and substandard products. There is little or no response among most of the Ibos to the numerous stories like this one that persist in our society.

I was a member of one of the obedient groups that traveled through Nigeria's five geopolitical zones during the most recent election. It amuses me that the majority of Nigeria's poor-quality roads, government buildings, and facilities are located in the country's southeast. Enugu is last in line, with Imo State leading the way, courtesy of Rochas Okorocha.

Peter Obi Borehole, in the northern part of Nigeria, is another excellent example. Although someone may claim that the money is his and he may use it however he pleases, the fact remains that Peter Obi's poor water project contradicts everything I know about him. I'd like to think that some Ibos executed and completed the water projects on his behalf.

These individuals are well-known among Easterners; they reside among them, perform these immoral deeds in a setting they are familiar with, and yet they choose to ignore it. The majority of Ndi Ibo support these acts by commission or omission, just as the vast majority of Nigerians view corruption as a way of life when it is in their favor. Eighty percent of fake medications, electronics, and replacement parts are produced or imported by criminal elements among the Ibos. While traveling through Nigeria's big marketplaces, one can see young people who don't own a shop or any space participating in a number of immoral acts, with store owners doing little to stop these acts.

My thread does not in any way target our South Eastern brothers based on ethnicity; rather, it calls out a culture that condones and even encourages the criminal element among them, which is killing people and harming our reputation abroad. In a similar vein, I shall denounce ethnic groups in my region (the South) that support oil bunkering, kidnapping, the Yorubas for financial fraud, a thuggish mindset among their youth, etc., and our northern brethren who promote the mentality of willing political servitude. If this claim is false, what evidence do we have from the media and from our daily lives that contradict it? Why are they unable to make conscious attempts to put an end to these wicked activities? I hope to see the political elite and market leaders take decisive and deliberate action to eliminate counterfeit and inferior products from our surroundings. The people must be willing to stand up against these despicable crimes before the government can do much.

If you're going to resort to name-calling, why not attack the message in the thread? Who are these people in the majority who trade on phoney medications and inferior goods?

Many Nigerians condemn corruption not because they hate corruption but because they don't benefit from the corruption. Once the corruption benefits them, they baptise it as grace.

You're correct. I've worked in both corporate settings and non-office environments, and no matter what, we all search for dishonest means of completing tasks as long as they serve our interests.

sure, attack the whole tribe because a few among them are into production of inferior goods

While you are at it, there is also a certain tribe into skull mining, it is safe to say everyone from that tribe are all skull miners?

Do that instead of asking your leaders to do the right thing

The same set of hypocrites that support Kanu Nnamdi and Simeon Ekpa that ordered killing of their fellow igbos and security operatives and Peter Obi that was accused of corruption

Ibos are mostly traders that are involved in imports, etc. Thus, what you've said is completely incorrect. Remember, a staggering 70% of medications sold in our country are bogus. I'd like not to talk about drinking and other things. Therefore, the vast majority of Ndi Ibos support these wicked deeds in one way or another.

Should the Ibo land elders, political elite, and market leaders take a stand against counterfeit pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and subpar products, the government will be forced to take action.

Nigeria will become a huge crime scene if Peter Obi ever becomes the president. The kind of brazen lawlessness, nepotism, bare faced corruption, unchecked adulteration of everything possible etc that will so sweep over this country ehn. The funniest part is, they will defend all the criminality without shame. It’s better imagined than experienced.

Everybody knows a daredevil forest in Oyo state where ritual activities are rampant...stop capping.

Have you done anything to stop it?

Am sure you defended Buhari and Tinubu. Am sure you already know the crimes associated with both. Tinubu is the President but he is associated with drug and other crimes and infact had litigations over it. Was there litigations over Obi's character? No. Nigeria is already an asylum under Tinubu and a crime scene that has plunged the citizens poverty never witnessed before.

I can assert that you are a Yoruba entity as usual. I won't drag words with you but ask you to do a simple research, which region / tribe has elected the most ex-convicts in Nigeria and to test the accuracy of your answer I will give you a tip :

That region currently has two Governors that are foreign ex-convicts both for fraud, the president is also from that region and is also a foreign criminal. I rest my case

sirjamesjnr seunmsg please help him in this research as a supporting researcher

. Though I have a soft spot for the Yoruba people, maybe because of their respect and tolerance for elders, or maybe because I had a girl from there. I'll tell you up front that I'm from the Niger Delta. Regarding my identification, I won't elaborate further. You just told me to ignore your illness because someone else has body aches.

You might be incorrect, but I respectfully disagree, brother. Peter Obi is not the most corrupt of the three, he doesn't come from the top leagues in politics, and he is approachable should something go wrong, which is why I supported him rather than because he was the best.

The Nigeria Delta has to be the biggest tribe because virtually everyone seeking to deflect stuff is suddenly from Nigeria Delta.

Even if you're from Nigeria Delta does it make any difference, you're even worse. Ibori that stole your common wealth is still given hero welcome today.

Freedom after freedom fighter has risen from your people all for their slim bellies to become fight. You are feeding Nigeria with your oil yet you are not at rightful place on pecking order. Why ? You bunch are corrupt and celebrate your communal thieves.

Oga shut ur mouth, the state must stand up to its responsibility to get rid of criminal elements, there are criminals everywhere and u cannot expect the traditional institutions to play a vital role in checking non-violent crimes like this....do u know the supply chain involved in such criminal activities? This chain involves people from all tribes across the country, so shut ur dirty mouth , very stupid thread
