In summary, the conflict in the Niger Delta involving the killing of 17 soldiers stems from a feud between illegal oil bunkers, notably Endurance Okodeh alias Amangbein, and a powerful cartel led by ex-militant leader Government Ekpemukpolo alias Tompolo. The dispute is intertwined with a land conflict between Okuama and Okoloba communities, exacerbated by the alleged involvement of ex-NIMASA boss Patrick Akpobolokemi, who is accused of building a mansion on disputed land. The illegal oil cartel, comprising influential individuals including top military operators, politicians, and businessmen, orchestrates oil theft from major pipelines with insider assistance, causing significant damage to the economy. Despite government efforts, the cartel continues to operate with impunity, shielded by connections and corrupt practices. The involvement of Tompolo's private security company, Tantita, in supplying a speed boat used by the slain soldiers raises questions about his connection to the incident. However, Tompolo has remained silent on the matter, leaving speculation about his involvement. Meanwhile, activists criticize government ineffectiveness in tackling oil theft, attributing the persistence of the issue to the powerful cartel's operations and protection. Overall, the conflict underscores the complex web of interests and corruption fueling illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta, posing challenges to security and economic stability in the region. 2 Likes |

I didn't even blinked an eye when the incident happened then. Who doesn't know how to hide meat at the corner of the mouth and pretend as if nothing is there. The army have been burning villages in ND when their personnel get killed doing illegal oil bunkering but no one says anything. under the approval of a sitting governor, they went house-to-house in obigbo killing & abducting innocent igbo people but no one said anything except the yorubas were happy while journalists were barred. Now the same yorubas instigated the military to go cleanse the village simply because they hate other southern tribes. You see when a child is crying & pointing in a direction it would be wise to investigate the direction he's pointing. NigerDelta instead of fighting yourself look at where the igbo have been crying & pointing that's where your problem is coming from 1 Like |

How are they able to surround the military and kill them without the military putting up resistance no matter how difficult? And why would they attend such meeting without observing security protocols which involves having intel on possible outcomes of their going there and make arrangements for any eventuality? The man that built the house that caused the whole thing was even the one who invited this military personnel that was killed, why haven't the military invite him for some answers? Our soldiers sometimes don't get things right, but it's only a small segment, but then I hate to see people kill soldiers. It's so sad. |
