I just replaced the oil in my gen. This time I put oil with the label 20W-50. The oil that was in it before was labeled SAE40.

I have always thought there was no much difference between these two and so I can use anyone for my gen.

What I noticed now is that I can no longer pump my water with the gen. The sound of the gen is different now and it makes a loud popping/shooting sound after a few minutes while pumping water.

Could I have bought the wrong oil for it or could it be something else?

I asked my mechanic and he says it is the oil. He is a good mechanic but not a very educated one, so I am not sure he really understands the difference between the oils. This is why I thought it best to seek other opinions here.

Attached are pictures of the two oils and gen.

Thank you for this. I will go check it out.

I found that the grade on the Total Hi Perf is the same 20w-50 I used that is giving me the problems. What do you think about this?

I've been using this for mr generator and I've never had issues with it, though most generators get used to the first oil used, when it was forst purchased...

I've sticked to the oil I'm using since the first day I bought my generator and I've never changed oil, even when the oil keeps increasing in price, I still stick to it...

Yes, I use elepaq constant, infact this month makes my gen 2years, i only do normal changing of oil serving till date that all. Though I rarely used the Gen now, because I've moved to where light is more constant now...
