Grammy Winner Mandisa Dies at Age 47: 'She Is with the God She Sang About'

Grammy-winning artist Mandisa Lynn Hundley, who was known professionally as Mandisa and who inspired millions with upbeat, positive songs such as Overcomer and Stronger, died Thursday at the age of 47. A cause of death has not been released as of this writing.

Mandisa’s vibrant personality and powerful voice helped her finish in the Top 9 of 2006’s American Idol, after which she found a home in contemporary Christian music. Her first album, True Beauty, soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Christian album charts, as did her last two albums, Overcomer and Out of the Dark.

The news of Mandisa's passing this morning was truly a shock. Not only was she a powerhouse of a talent but she also possessed a genuinely kind spirit. We ministered together several times, she sang background vocals on my album 'Thank You Lord' and joined me on several tours.
On one particular tour, notes kept appearing in everyone's bunk on the bus or in their instrument cases. These were encouraging messages like: "You are blessed and highly favoured," or "You're such a blessing on this tour." Only at the end of the tour did we discover it had been Mandisa.
Whether behind the scenes or centre stage, her presence always brought joy and hope.

The Christian radio outlet K-LOVE is reporting that Mandisa has passed away. She was 47.

The cause of death is not yet known, and details are sparse, but she reportedly died at her home in Nashville.

"Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart," says David Pierce, K-LOVE Chief Media Officer.

Mandisa was a Grammy-winning artist, known for her uplifting hits like "Good Morning" and "Overcomer." Throughout her career, she collaborated with top Christian performers like TobyMac, Matthew West, Michael W. Smith, Kirk Franklin, and Jordan Feliz.

She was also an author, telling her testimony in her book, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through The Shadows To Find God's Joy, about her lifelong struggles with depression and trusting in God for healing. She had also been very open in interviews with CBN and other Christian outlets like K-LOVE.

Don't know her but from what I have read she must have lived a beautiful selfless existence. She will be looking forward to her glorious resurrection body on the day the Lord returns. She is sleeping in Christ.

Wow, and I just recently discovered her and her songs around middle of last year. I got hooked immediately. She's an amazing gospel singer. Sad to see such a great talent cut short.

Oh.. I learnt she was depressed and it could be a possible suicide. Some people now say depression is an ailment and can be treated with medications. I don't agree.
Depression comes and stays from the wrong thoughts.
