Interesting. Do the civil servants also get paid for those days not at work? How do you ensure these civil servants are actually using those days for farm work that will improve food security? How many of these people actually have farms that would require days off? Our government always implementing half baked policies.

Why not implement a direct agricultural productivity policies specifically for farmers to boost production within the state.
Do not not mix the two work together. It’s either you’re a farmer or civil servant. Incentivize both vocations to get effective and efficient results.

Na waa...who will monitor whether the two free days are utilised for the purpose given.

Obviously, those categories of staff listed after "other than" are the ones truly working.

What support is the government giving to established farmers in Bayelsa in terms of Security, Mechanisation, Fertilisers, improved seedlings, Agric loans etc? That would be better than declaring what may not be effectively monitored.

Good move... But approving the days won't suffice.

If we want to boost Agriculture across the nation, the government must make the sector flourish and profitable.

Give out lands on lease to unemployed youths with the passion and interest... Teach them modern farming practices, gift them fertilizers, and seedlings.

In less than 10 years, there will be an agricultural revolution culminating in massive exportation of agricultural products.

Above all... Tackle Insecurity once and for all!

Why not the Government also laid down good plans for this by providing some free lands, seedlings etc in order to ensure that there is a proactive measure on ground for the program.

Exactly. At least we thank GOD for this Governor and others that have started seeing the importance of food self-reliance.

Civil servants in Nigeria aren't Pro Rate... They are even paid for not working, on a normal day.

All the comments above me shows that many people don't have sense.

I see people with so much hate for good tidings and good news. Lack of positivity.

I pity anybody that rely on social media to make inferences about Nigeria.

Where are the farms in Bayesla? When did Bayesla begin to have farmlands to cultivate crops? Also, what sort of crops is Bayesla known to be a major or seemingly significant producer of?

Governors and scam are 5&6.

Ortom did same in Benue, what's the result.

Other governors have followed that route since the removal of subsidy under various guise. The governors don't want to increase minimum wage, so they rather grant free working days. What's the size of arable land in Bayelsa (smallest state in Nigeria).

First tackle insecurity, then mechanize agriculture to ensure higher output.

Most governors have deliberately refused to invest in mechanizing agriculture, but rather pay lip service to the sector. Check the state budget for agriculture in most state and it will be glaring.

Civil servants are not professional farmers how many hours in two days will make a significant difference in agricultural output.

Mechanization via long-term loans to real farmers is the viable way to increase agricultural output, with guaranteed security.

At a time when kidnapping and herdsmen attacks are the order of the day.

You think people don't want to go back to their farms

You think people have suddenly become lazy

You think people are okay with with current food prices hitting the high heavens

And you also think that their 9-5 jobs is the reason why there is food shortage

Nigerian politicians are the worst human beings on earth.

They will rather do window dressing with the symptoms to the challenges than tackle the real monster
