Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said there is no way Nigeria can have security if states do not have their police.

He stated this while speaking at a one-day dialogue on State Police organized by the House of Representatives in Abuja on Monday.

Jonathan said the issue is critical, adding that there is no need to debate whether we need to have a state police or not but the operations.

He said during the 2014 conference when the matter of State Police came up, all delegates supported alongside other proposed security measures.

The former president noted that while the issue of State Police is being discussed, other measures must also be taken into consideration to make the country better.

He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) operations must be rejigged while the use of Police in elections must be minimal.

Jonathan said the laws must be strong to eliminate the lacuna that may provide political actors to misuse the state police in their favour or intimidate political opponents.

True, but the North will sabotage every effort to have state police in place. They believe it will oil the wheel of disintegration as they are allergic to anything that can empower states, if not development generally.

The best system of government for Nigeria is the UK type of system where the four nations of Wales, England north Ireland and Scotland are economically independent but are politically answerable to the seat of power in London.

The major ethnic groups shud hv been independent home nations under the control of a parliamentary voted prime Minister. Regionalism is the way forward or total disintegration. Nigeria needs unbundling.
