That’s not unbelievable. Forget what the articles are saying tho. Just listen to people’s real experiences

And the reason why I’m telling you is not to convince you because the only thing I’m sure you’re willing to believe is that all Americans are suffering (which is fine) but I don’t want you to discourage anyone from pursuing that path.

salary of 1,000 a day ..dude you just Dey lie that's 30k a month ...lol dey play

Weather he dey work for NASA....tell that to some village kids in Okitipupa or Ebonyi state

The typical American has $1,200 in their savings account -- that's the median savings account balance among Americans surveyed by The Motley Fool Ascent in July 2023.

Data from the Federal Reserve collected in 2022 shows drops in the percentage of Americans who can cover an unexpected $400 expense and those who can cover three months of expenses, for the first time since at least 2013. Additionally, 35% of Americans in 2022 said they were doing worse off than a year ago, up from 20% in 2021 and the highest since at least 2014, per the Federal Reserve.

so you want to know what I do and who am I ?

Well? You need to know everything that over 200 million Nigerians are doing

In a country that has over 200 million population with huge market imagine if everyone in Nigeria is spending N100 only multiply it by 200 million then you have an idea of how huge the market it

As Nigerians are running out to do petty jobs and funny jobs Asians are trouping to establish businesses

The issue is that I don't fancy all these paid wages jobs ..personally ! I don't like the concept of my fellow man paying me . Can't I pay someone and let him work for me

My own mentality...so I don't get it when people spend millions to go and be doing petty jobs

No that’s not to say you should always discard REAL studies for anecdotal evidence but if you already have a biased mind, those “studies” will have you disbelieving anyone who tells you that it’s their reality.

Literally nothing they say will convince you because to you it’s impossible. I’m just letting you know now that it’s not impossible and you shouldn’t discourage anyone else from trying.

Good luck to you too sir.

@bold, Who said that?

This is why I get tired of these types of conversations. Y’all end projecting your feelings or whatever it may be onto the person you’re talking to and claim that’s what they said. So exhausting.

If believing that 80 percent of Nigerians abroad are working 2-3 jobs and don’t have $1000 in their bank accounts is what makes you feel better, have at it honey. Nothing will change your mind.

From the tone of your posts, you apparently need to believe that to be okay within yourself. ✌🏾

The research you’re talking about is the same as the one Americans do in Nigeria and conclude that the average Nigerian is miserably destitute living on less than a dollar a day. Is the number true? Maybe. But does it paint the whole picture? Hardly.

You might be doing well for yourself and everyone you know is doing well too. So you look at the studies and think to yourself “surely they must be biased or have a superiority complex against Nigerians”. But the studies are real; just that they pull in the extremes from both ends which kind of skews the results.

Look around you, if the people you know are fine & do not represent the narrative you’re used to seeing online about Nigeria or Africa as whole, chances are Nigerians in America are doing okay too. You don’t have to peddle the negativity.

I am talking about the research that Americans made about themselves not about Nigerians ...I don't know why you guys love comparing apple and oranges ! Don't make it look as if that we are talking about American research on Nigerians

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT AMERICAN RESEARCH ON THEMSELVES AMERICANS AND THEY KNOW THE PLACES IT PAINS THEM ...here you are arguing again...nawa for Una

It's like when someone am adult is telling you that he is having headach consistently and you telling that person complaining that is a lie and you are arguing with an adult telling you that he is having headache..

.... doesn't it make the person arguing ridiculous! That's why I used caps so that you can understand the arguement

Everything no be emotions...I have many people in USA that haven't seen their side for years! It's just not easy there same is everywhere...the most critical thing is debt thay is killing th3m from students debt ti credit card debt to mortgage...it leaves nothings just few
Re: Japa: Top 5 Lucrative Side Hustles For Nigerians To Survive In UK, Canada by ariesbull: 9:22pm On Apr 23
While nobody really wants to tap into their emergency savings, most Americans couldn’t even afford to do so if they had to.

A stunning new Bankrate survey of 1,030 individuals finds that more than half of American adults (56%) lack sufficient savings to shoulder an unexpected $1,000 expense. Of that number, 21% said they would go into debt by financing the spending with a credit card, while 16% would steeply cut back on other spending to bridge the gap. Another 10% would borrow from family and friends, 4% would take out a personal loan, and 5% said they would do “something else.”

FORTUNE

Hmmmmm...That's how bad! These guys are saying the truth about themselves! As is over 50% who are citizens how much more immigrants or what !

In the oil industry in Nigeria* That was his point. The oil industry anywhere pays very high, and yes, permanent employees in Nigeria can earn as high or even more than that amount.

I understand your friends' conditions in Continental Europe might or have distorted your view about Nigerians in the diaspora, but I must state that Nigerians in the US live very successful lives. They constitute the wealthiest set of diasporans. So, please don't use the same brush for folks in Austria to tar those in the US.

who dash Nigerians....Nigerians aren't even the 5th richest group In USA or UK. The Asian America are in that sweet spots followers by Hispanics

In Asian Americans

Chinese ... trades
Indians .... IT
Lebanese/Arabs ... Trades and Jewelry

Of those in the top one percent of wealth holders, approximately 3% are European and Canadian immigrants, . 5% are from Mexico or Cuban, and 1.7% are from Asia (especially Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, and India). Ownership of key assets varies considerably across affluent immigrant groups.

who dash Nigerians ? Is it not the ones wey we dey see here dey drive the normal cars wey we dey drive if they come back ! Bros make Una leave story !

I am not saying that we don't have successful Nigerians in USA but they aren't even upto 10% of the entire Nigerian Americans ! The glass ceiling wouldn't let them !

I did not say Nigerians in the US are the wealthiest set of immigrants, I stated that Nigerians in the US are the wealthiest set of diasporans. That is, for Nigerians in the abroad, those in the US are the wealthiest. Two different things.

As for the bold, that is perfectly normal. There is a native black population in the US our people can immerse in such that they feel comfortable living in the US for generations to come without ever thinking of returning to Nigeria. It is usually those in countries with fewer black people that strive to build houses in Nigeria as they envisage returning at an advanced age.

Which is a pure lie ..

I think Nigerians in Asians are far more richer ...especially those In Japan, South Korea and Chinese these sets of Nigerians are core businessmen

You can't compare a businessman with a man that is eating hourly wages

Nigerians in China, Japan, South Korea or even Vietnam do more of business and are richer ! I know a guy in China that is always ringing his Chinese partners to Nigeria to do business and do importations....Just that Nigerians in these Asians countries don't make noise

A smart Nigerian will prefer Japanese ,North Korean visa to USA or UK cos of business opportunities these countries afford

First, not everyone can be an entrepreneur as there are more employees than entrepreneurs in every part of the world. The US is the best place to thrive as a skilled black professional.
Two, well, just as I am not too sure about Nigerians in the US being the wealthiest set of diasporans, you cannot be too sure with Nigerians in Asia being wealthier than their US' counterparts. But it is an interesting area to study. However, I want to bet that those in Asia are richer than those in Europe.

Do you think any and every one can get credit in America? At least in any tangible measure as to achieve something worthwhile with it?

If it were so easy wouldn’t they be handing it out like candy? would there be poor or homeless people in America if everyone can buy anything they want on credit. 😒? Tell me why everyone doesn’t have the mortgage to live in multiple mansions and drive exotic vehicles since credit solves it all.

And Why do you think people like Donald Trump pad their profile when applying for credit?

Could it be because you’re only eligible for better loans if your income and payment history show that you have the money to afford it?

I’m going to need you to put on your thinking cap for a second pls .

But let's establish that Nigerians in USA aren't the most successful

Now you shifted goal post...to credit card

To get a credit card, you must submit an application to the bank or credit union that issues the card, providing identifying details such as your Social Security Number and financial information such as employment status and income.

All you need is get a job and SSN. Make Una no dey think say we are daft. Even Non USA citizens can get CC

I don’t think anyone here has said Nigerians are the most
successful group in America. They are certainly some of the most successful. That’s a fact. No one claimed they are on top the list.

As far as credit and mortgage that you keep going on about, why doesn’t everyone have it then if all you need is a job and SSN ? Why are some people still poor and destitute? Could it be that the type of job you have and the income you earn determines how much allowance the bank can let you spend? Do you think a minimum wage earner can walk into the bank and be given allowances to buy a million dollar house on credit?

I didn’t think you’re daft but now that you say it, you might be right.

How so 🤔? We've been hearing that for DECADES now and yet there's still strong demand for migration from Nigeria.

unemployed person will raise 3 million plus to go and do these petty jobs

That person is basically daft trust me !

Wow !!!☺️ You need to understand that migrants don't always stay in those petty jobs forever. And even where they do those petty jobs still give them a living standard better than 95% of Nigerians in Nigeria.

I started off walking to work, but within 1 year I owned a car as a fast food cook, I lived in an apartment with amenities comparable to anything in Lekki, and I could comfortably afford it. I have posted photos of where I lived back then. I paid CASH for my university education and still sent money back to Nigeria regularly. There were around 20 to 30 Nigerians that arrived the same time as me in this town and most of us achieved that basic standard within 1 to 2 years.

ariesbull:

Seriously this is the most informative comment from you on this thread. It illustrates everything needed to understand your opinion or should I say opposition to migration.

As for credit, please look up interest rates. I'll merely remind you...you seem very young so ask older people around you...back when Nigeria was "good", in the 1970s and 1980's, teachers and factory workers bought BRAND NEW cars on bank credit.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Depends on what you define as lucrative.

You asked so yes I live in the USA and I know people who do some of those jobs and they have good living standards. I know a Nigerian here who has a mobile mechanic business. No joke...Yoruba guy...call him and he will come to your house and fix your car.

Hair braiders charge $400 per head. I know some of the ladies in that business that own salons and EMPLOY others.

Many don't even pay taxes. Those skills are some of the BEST ways to be self employed and even become an employer.

Good Luck to Nigeria.
