Ambassador College Ota and the likes of Loyola Jesuit makes me refuse to believe the notion that there aren't good schools especially for the ambitious middle class segment in Nigeria.

Congratulations to the lad!

How much do you think Loyola Jesuit fees are? grin The fees are expensive o

Yes. As it's, only Loyola Jesuit College can comfortably compete with Ambassador College in mathematics wizardry across the top secondary schools in the country. Looking at Ambassador's trajectory, I wonder if they scooped all the math teachers at Loyola grin

The difference between Loyola and Ambassadors is that while Ambassadors might have a small group of shining stars that it puts forward for competitions, Loyola has an entire school of stars.
Also, Loyola does not advertise itself like other private schools do.
For the class of 2023, one student got a full ride to Princeton (currently the highest ranked US university), another got a full ride to Yale. Two students got full scholarships to Johns Hopkins (one of the best medical schools in the US). They had one full ride to University of Chicago and two to Rice University, Houston (all of these schools are top 10 universities). One to UCLA, USC and UCal Berkeley. This same set had 89 students, 77 of them had over 300 in JAMB.

In 2022, they produced the best student in JAMB, Eyimofe Adebayo. The same student got a fully funded offer to MIT.

More than 80 - 90 percent of every set gets into top schools in the US, UK and Canada. Last year, 2 students represented Nigeria in Olympiad Chemistry in Switzerland

Also, every year, they send 25 ss2/3 students to participate in Model United Nations at Washington DC in February.

The difference is, they don't advertise like other schools do

This is an impressive list of achievements. The fact it's normal means the standard is the norm, not an exception.

I'm curious, which curriculum is used for teaching? How does the school recruit exceptional teachers? Any idea of the entry level salary for a teacher? What does it take to be employed there? What is the profile of parents who send their children to LJC?

Sorry for the too many questions.

It's why intentional parenting is very important. I just pity people giving birth to a plethora of dumb foolish low IQ kids without any plans.

I'm not sure about the salaries but I do know they are not a for-profit organization like most private schools so teachers are paid generously. Fees this year is about 5 million. They do have additional termly fees for using medical facilities and a few other services.

Loyola is VERY selective in its admissions. Every year, about 2500 students sit for the entrance exam into JS 1. They accept only 120 (about 4 percent of applicants). Every student must live in the boarding house and they do not accept transfers into other classes. So your classmates in JS1 are the same ones you'd graduate with in SS 3 barring those that leave in-between. It is a very close-knit community.

They've had and still have some pretty high profile parents. Mind you, they'd NEVER admit your kids based on who you are but strictly on Merit. The entrance exam is administered once in a year, followed by an interview.
Some of the high profile parents are:
Former Kano State Governor and present APC chairman, Ganduje, had two kids there. One graduated in 2004 and was just appointed by Tinubu as the Executive Director of Rural Electrification (Umar Abdullahi)
Former Nassarawa Governor's daughter, Adamu. I think he is a senator
Former Edo State Governor and former APC chairman's son, Oshiomole.
Former Ekiti Governors son and daughter, Oni.
Former Akwa Ibom governor and current Senate President, Akpabio had two kids at Loyola
Former Imo State Governor's son, Udenwa.
Former Imo State Governor's daughter, Rochas Okorocha
Former Kogi Sate Deputy Governor, Omeiza
Former Labor party's presidential candidate, Patrick Utomi. Had two kids at Loyola
Abike Dabiri had two kids
Former Ambassador of Nigeria to Switzerland Uhomoibhi, had two kids
Former Finance minister's kid, Diezani Madueke, graduated in 2003 (This was long before she became minister)
Former CEO of Fidelity Bank, Ihejiahi, had 4 kids there
Fomer CEO of Konga had two kids there, one of which is CEO of the firm

A good number of senators: Ndoma-Egba, Chris-Asoluka etc. There are quite a number, can't type it all.

You see this information you have dropped here? I'm extremely grateful and pleased. Thank you!

One last question, how does one groom his or her child to be able to pass the exams and interviews to gain admission into LJC?

P.S. An observation, if it's based on merit, how come there are quite a number of politicians who send their children to the school? I sincerely hope they don't influence the tutoring, scoring and administrative processes. Na Nigerian politicians we dey talk about.

P.S. I think the child of Kogi's Audu was accused of sexual harassment by one prominent TwitterNG feminist some years ago. Both attended the school.

I think certain primary schools have an edge because they teach the type of content that comes out in the exams. Ultimately, the exams are a test of IQ. Admission is strictly on Merit. An average child cannot keep up with the rigor and pace of learning which is why it's important they admit the best kids.

Loyola enforces rules regardless of whose children they are of.

Again, thank you. I hope you wouldn't more questions, especially regarding the elite crop of secondary schools in Nigeria. I'm interested in conducting a research about that group of schools. It's the reason I'm asking.

Congrats Mr Ositade. 👏

Nigeria is blessed with brilliant folks. If only the country will embrace Merit ahead of Nepotism/Tribalism, & let our best brains be in the driving seats of every sector.

Our country is filled with dumbos who are too selfish in their brilliance to make the country embrace merit ahead of nepotism.

Do you understand the oxymoron above
