One of the plagues of this nation is bad leadership. State fund ends in individual pockets. Few people will complain if money is used wisely and the effects are clearly seen. Citizens won't mind to sacrifice for future growth's sake. Here most of those demanding sacrifices are thieves.

On workers day when you removed every kinds of subsidy without corresponding increments in salary, you chose to say the civil servants are paying lowest VAT? Are you threatening them with impending upward review of VAT?
Today should be a protest day if Labour Union has meaningful leaders in the country.

I said it before.
The president should come on live chat to explain how a worker will spend their monthly salary.

Very heartless leaders. They forgot that the country's resources belongs to all of us.

So, what are we really enjoying as a citizen of an oil producing country.

Selfish people everywhere. They kept giving us reasons to hate our country of origin

Power minister is threatening its citizens. While this figurehead NASS rubberstamp is giving another propaganda here. After all the lies and propaganda, they still increase the hardship and pain.

No more money to loot. So they have started to glean or scavenge via any mean to tightened the noose on the poor hapless citizens. Meanwhile the Nigerian economy is still bleeding some more.

No electricity/power, cost of fuel is rising, cost of living is skyrocketing, naira depreciating against the dollar again among many myriads of economic, security and national problems. All they are obsessed with is how to continue to fleece the country to feather their own nest.

If we collect more vat than what we collect now the money will still be looted. We always compare ourselves with developed countries but we fail to act like them when it comes to responsibilities of the Government to the citizens like provisions of basic amenities, minimum wage. we won't compere ourselves with other climes

Racoon:
Comparatively, Nigeria’s efficiency in collecting Value Added Tax is the lowest among its African peers, indicating significant inefficiencies in its tax system.

“This trend of low tax revenue, coupled with a continued dependency on the increasingly unstable oil revenue, presents a major risk to Nigeria’s fiscal sustainability. It also highlights an important area for potential reform to boost revenue and stabilise the country’s economic framework.

“The lack of growth in non-oil revenue sources and the volatile nature of oil income underscore the urgent need for Nigeria to diversify its revenue base and enhance its fiscal management to ensure economic stability and growth.”

What a big lie VAT is calculated at 3-5% on any commodity and services while in Nigeria the last time I checked on consumer goods is at 7.5% .. and you can hardy see North part pay VAT.

Re: Nigeria’s VAT Collection, Lowest In Africa – Tajudeen Abbas by nairalanda1(m): 8:46am On May 01
Yeah, and 20% of our revenue is tax, the rest is from oil money, where the prices haven't been above 100 dollars per barrel in years (except for a brief period in 2021-22.)

That is a big reason why we take loans.
Re: Nigeria’s VAT Collection, Lowest In Africa – Tajudeen Abbas by jaxxy(m): 8:46am On May 01
Taxes are only collected on services rendered or amenities/infrastructures provided and maintained.

Where are the services or infrastructures? undecided

It would be looted because most of you don't do the hard work of holding your leaders to account. Many of you on this site support GEJ, despite the corruption of his regime, many support buhari and tinubu, despite their own corruption mess, and so forth.

Plus, it is because of low tax income that government cannot provide things like basic anemites and mininum wage. We need a lot of money for that, and the oil we produce can only do that for a country of 10-12 million people, not 220 million people.

We need more money. Good anemites don't pay for themselves.

The money they collect from this company is the reason why most companies underpay their staff. SON came to my workplace the other day, they saw many things that ain't right yet they did nothing. It's more like they came for excursion
