But the leaders are eating our taxes.

And we pay enough taxes. Many different taxes. So i dont know what you are saying.
nairalanda1:
It would be looted because most of you don't do the hard work of holding your leaders to account. Many of you on this site support GEJ, despite the corruption of his regime, many support buhari and tinubu, despite their own corruption mess, and so forth.

Plus, it is because of low tax income that government cannot provide things like basic anemites and mininum wage. We need a lot of money for that, and the oil we produce can only do that for a country of 10-12 million people, not 220 million people.

We need more money. Good anemites don't pay for themselves.

That is why you should do the hard work of holding them to account.

I don't like abusing people, but moaning about 'our leaders looting money' is laziness. And it does not change the fact that we have to improve our tax collection. If you are annoyed about our leaders looting, hold them to account, or do the hard work of democracy. Be like Abdoulaye wade of senegal, who spent 20 -25 years in torment, before he became president of his country.

Let's all stop being lazy. All this shouting 'our leaders are thieves', on nairaland, has it done anything?

How will the citizens hold the government? Citizens cant do it. Government need to step up in doing their duties.

When there is not a system, how will you hold government? Working countries abroad have a system and regulations for people to hold the govt. Not Nigeria.

It kind of is the reason why we have a democracy...it is for citizens to easily do the job of holding their government to account.

That is the only way they can get government to step up.

And you needn't wait for the system to be better. The saner climes we admire...they are that way because people stepped up when they were not working well at all to make sure they work.People, not government, using tools of democracy.

They have certainly perfected the plans.

From the manufacturing end, the government is proposing a 30% increase but we all know how it's will end. The bargaining will start and then close at somewhere 12.5% to 15%.

This is one major reason why some companies didn't reduce prices while the dollar was coming down.

RETURN FULL AUTONOMOUS POLICING RESOURCING AND ELECTIONEERING STATUSES TO OUR 36 CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITIES AND LET THEM COLLECT VATS ON TRADING BUSINESSES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STATES.
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS A THIEF COLLECTING TAXES ON STATES.

VAT is in the exclusive list. About 95% nations run VAT in exclusive list.

It's not really easy for states to collect VAT as you have hundreds of businesses running in several states.

For example which state will collect VAT for businesses such as MTN, Nigeria brewery that has about 7major plans in different states, FMN, Dstv, NBC?

We need to start asking government what they are doing with all these taxes and tariffs. The looting is too much and they do not care. The country is seriously bleeding. Its unfortunate that more suffering is coming to the masses to enable them lot more.

The money they collect from this company is the reason why most companies underpay their staff. SON came to my workplace the other day, they saw many things that ain't right yet they did nothing. It's more like they came for excursion
