It has been a problem for years.

You can't make a comment, or propound an idea without having someone abuse a d troll one

And then there are people who just start threads with titles like 'Yoruba people are this or Igbo people are that or tinubu is a drug dealer or Obi is useless' just to provoke people.

Abeg time.for sanity

Seun makes more money from this toxicity.

Nigéria has deteriorated over the years and bad leadership has brought out the demons in us. This is who we are now. You cannot change it. Nairaland is a true reflection of who we are.

As an Igbo man, if I don't hate Yoruba people, nothing can make me diss them, even if my identity is hidden.

Take this from me: The real YOU is what you do behind closed doors, not what you do in the open.

True.....but a good majority is also just trolling for reactions. No strong belief in what they're typing.

Every Yoruba person sees an igboman daily
Every Igbo person sees a Yoruba daily

Why don't they say these things to each other if it's that serious 🤔

What I have learned the people that post on nairaland are not the well to do in society. Those that get level are mingling n interacting just fine

The igbo man that rebounded from the Biafran war in less than 10yrs can never cry victim biko. It's not in our blood.

Call it chest beating. Call it whatever you want. The facts are the facts

Truth can never be considered disrespect

If somebody is making an observation and you see it as victim playing, that's on you .

What surprises me is the defence the Yoruba put up for the Fulani who through their leaders destroyed Nigeria.

Despite the justification for them to be derided, the Yoruba see it as unjust, and are ready to fight for their tyrant LEADERS all in the name of countering the igbo

I do not create divisive threads,I delve to the nitty gritty issues, the Yoruba, through their alliance with the Fulani have brought untold hardship to Nigerians.

I do not hate the Yorubas, I lost respect for them

In 2005-10 it was kind of peaceful. Very peaceful. Because internet was limited to educated Nigerians, the upper class and the upper middle class. So, everyone be civll

The problem is, once the thing called home internet came in, from around 2008, the whole world could join in the browsing. Thus the tribalism people took over and things went down hill

Same thing happened in many countries once the internet opened up and spread beyond it's niche status

The only way to detox this platform is to enable phone number verification and even a verified badge for people who completes a KYC verification process.
.
Then there should be an algorithm that ranks comments based on the choice of words and ratio of likes to dislikes.
When people know that getting a new account after a ban is impossible, they will behave. Also KYC will allow people to own up to their posts and be more responsible online.
.
Right now, one dick and harry will just post nonsense as a first comment and it automatically stays.
Likewise this is the era of AI, mods cannot effectively manage a huge forum like this. Employing advanced AI to remove and moderate trashy contents will even speed up the site and server storage space.
.
Mr. Seun should reach out to me and let me give him a good contract.

Mods go soon ban you very soon

You can say the number of users were less but the tribalism was always as bad. I have been on this forum for over almost 20yrs
As long as the forum offered anonymity it always had that nasty streak in it

The tribalism on this forum is between the Igbos and the Yorubas, the other tribe are less vocal on the internet, but you have no right to complain because you keep using the word "They" which is highly subjective, this makes you exactly what you are complaining about, I joined this forum in 2013 or so, I've been visiting since 2011, as far back as 2011 when Jonathan was president there was tribalism then, and it was champion by the Igbos, see below thread.

https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan

After Buhari took over in 2015 it escalated, who are the main victims? The Hausa/Fulani.

2023 election made everything worse, ever since then, it's been equal dose of tribalism from each side, but the main problem is that the Igbos cries the loudest about Victimisation when in reality both tribe are guilty of tribalism in this forum including you.

Is not true. Anyone supporting Peter Obi automatically becomes Igbo by the Yoruba tribe making me wonder of the Oduduwa were afraid of the Igbos

While anyone supporting Tinubu or opposing Peter Obi is automatically tagged as Yoruba, these things happen on both sides.

Nairaland is a reflection of real world.

—Go on Twitter, it is tribalism all day.
—Go on Facebook, it is same tribalism
—Even on TikTok, Gen Z kids are catching on the wave too.

Nigeria tribalism is now on steroids, there is nothing Seun can do at this stage. People will still find a way around it and continue either ways.

Nairaland still remains largely the same if you avoid politics section or politics news.

Seun has no one to blame for himself.....he was looking for the validation of igbos on Twitter and left nairaland to rot, thank God he realized his foolishness soon enough to run away from Twitter and concentrate on nairaland and improvements have been seen since then.

Hope he learnt his lessons

Mehink its time we rethink the meaning words like
Tribalism
Patriotism
Racism
And even difference between words like Zionism vs Judaism as the debate on the global scale seems to take.
It's not wrong to take a step back from things that are clearly not working as intended.
All over Europe , theres anti immigration wave....but then there was a time globalization was a government policy all over Europe(many even claim it's human right), having realized that unchecked immigration is bad for them they are now against it.
I believe theres nothing wrong with one loving ones tribe.....if that's tribalism so be it because it's Foolish to love another tribe more than yours . In Europe , an Englishman can rule France now, he won't even dare contest but in Nigeria it's tribalism if a yorubaman decides not to vote an igboman.

Change is the only thing constant in this life

Nwannem nwanyi, I will give you 10k right now if you can produce any comment of mine that insults another tribe.
My argument on this platform has always been with my Igbo tribesmen and my points since 2014 has been;
1. We must align with other tribes if we desire political power in Nigeria. Nobody gives you power on a platter of gold at least not a country like Nigeria.
2. When Nnamdi Kanu came up I was among the few Igbo voices that didn't support his antics and modalities. At the end all I predicted about him happened
3. Since 2014, Igbos have been antagonizing APC while other tribes and regions like SS, NC and others that antagonized it with us have moved on, we are still stuck in 2015. Please don't tell me the situation of Nigeria because every Nigerian complains about government when they are not the tribe in power.
4. When Peter Obi came in 2022 I refused to join the bandwagon because I knew that it would amount to nothing. Besides the way my tribesmen went about Peter Obi presidential ambition was nothing short of banditry.

If all that I outlined above and more makes you think that I am tribalistic then so be it
