Meet the horror genre. The gift that keeps giving. The most profitable and bankable low-risk genre in Hollywood. On a more serious note, it seems small to mid budget films are on the rise again after the ginormous banger that was 2019 with numerous "big films" bringing huge money at the box office and COVID essentially delivered a huge blow to smaller movies theatrically with more people only willing to go to cinemas unless it's a true event film or worth the stress. NB: Warner Bros might have had a mixed year with big flops in the superhero genre but their overall lineup of films had enough impact to put the company in the green. The studio is already set to win 2024 for the first time in a long while.

abduleez1: Still struggling to believe Anyone But You made over $200mn globally. ๐ Sydney Sweeney proving her mettle? Funny how I was quick to side Zendaya (Challengers) over her box office wise few days ago. ๐ณ๐ณ๐คง Margot Robbie already shut naysayers up. Is it a new renaissance of strong leading women who can deliver box office glory on their own. This is not just a couple of star actress but a group of 'em. Ana De Armas, abeg please don't disappoint me later this year with Ballerina. Your peers have proven their mettle. I know Anya Taylor Joy is bringing it home. Can't believe all women i root hard for "fanatically" are all gonna deliver box office success in a space of a little over a year? ๐คค๐๐ What a time to be alive.

abduleez1:Horror is the king of making a shit ton of money without a budget. Look at Saw movies a 2 billion dollar franchise over a measly 100 million dollar budget. The Blair Witch Project made 246 million dollars on a 60k budget wtf! |

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Achilles100: 6:24pm On May 03 |
JackBizzle: I think his comment stems from that fact that female-led roles have tanked in the box office severally in huge franchise or should I say huge budget movies, so having multiple female lead movies doing so well is almost a shocker and a positive change in the norm of how it has been for a couple of years. 1 Like |

Achilles100: Just finished watching it. It's the best action flick I've watched all year. In fact, it's the best Gojira movie EVER. Great infusion of Japanese post-WWII era realities and sentiments. It's a great war story. Combined with a fine bit of fantasy all in one. |

joseph1832: Yep. It delivered. More happy for David Ayer. After the Suicide Squad of 2016, man's career took a huge dip. Could hardly get projects as a director from top studios cos that movie marked him for segregation. Maybe big Zack has hope in the future.... That's if he trusts the process. ๐๐ |

WriterNig:I completely disagree with your review. That is the best Godzilla I've ever seen on screen and it was made with the fraction of the budget that all these stupid Hollywood Godzilla movies usually waste. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by abduleez1(m): 7:22pm On May 03 |
Godzilla: Minus One......9/10 Absolute visual feast. Cool CGI artistry, symbiotic musical score โ drives home the feels. The Cinematography was enticing. It's a perfect symbiotic blend of realism and fantasy. Mixing post WWII realities of war in defeated Japan and the fantasy elements of the Kaiju-verse. It's an artistic beauty this people created. It's not your normal and basic Godzilla movies with little to no substance. But an honest character development for the individual characters in the film unlike the previous focus on the monsters without gripping storytelling. Where the superb storytelling ends, the action is there to take it up a notch further. You might even be fooled by the first 30 mins thinking it's a proper bleak war movie. And this right here is what elevates this movie as an all time great. I'd say this movie has a symbolic representation to the Japs just like Oppenheimer was last year. It was expertly woven with the World War narrative and sufferings of the Japanese citizens after their defeat delivering a gripping story. The movie is essentially a war movie detailing the effects of war and its consequences and the fight for survival when faced by an existential threat. Beautiful action scenes, the destruction and death in this movie was premium tier. You could feel for the death of the individual characters unlike the other Hollywood Godzilla movies where I hardly give zero fvvks for the background characters dying. The emotional weight was greatly charged. The ending was damn too good. Also very emotional ending โ kinda shed a drop of tear. It was well acted by the actors, great directing and writing. The movie had a soul and wasn't just all about stupid fun and destruction. It also carried moral and cultural weight. Wondering where the next one takes us and the Gojira DNA seemingly left in Noriko's neck. Need more of this product from Japan, live action wise. If only Nigerian theatres could have let one see this on the big screen. It's a beauty. Of course the Japanese studio TOHO rarely distributes films outside their shores if they ain't sure of great returns. 1 Like 1 Share |

abduleez1:Uhmmmmmm.... Looks like I'm the only one that feels like Godzilla Minus One is the most overhyped piece of dogshit I've ever seen. I sincerely can't see how this movie won best visual effects in the Oscars - you can totally see the low ass budget on the movie most of the time. The scene of Godzilla looking like a candle burnt toy; the overhead scene of the soldiers on the ship in the beginning, you'll totally know they're CG renderings of Ken dolls or something - The Creator should have taken the price. This movie has the worst extras trying to act scenes. Please abduleez and others- rewatch the scenes where they were first gathered to discuss how to kill Godzilla omg - this extras were looking at the camera๐ sometimes, the main person talking would shout and the extras would try to wiggle their mouths like they were performing in a Broadway show. The rest of the cast except the main guy were so effing flat- I slept 3 times trying to watch this movie. The movie started badly and ended well but I was already bored at the middle of it so much that the pay off wasn't worth it in the end. I was just there staring at it till the end forcing myself to watch so my 1.something GB won't be a waste. I was actually rooting for this movie to be good, unfortunately for me- it was so mid and I fckin downloaded the 1080p version!!! Wtf! It was a good movie so overhyped that it then felt like a bad movie to me - 4/10 P.S.: Why do most Japanese actors act like they're I'm a play. They always have to use overaching gestures, open their mouths wide just to act! 2 Likes |

Illusioneffect: Lol, you clearly had other issues before watching this movie. Yes, there's some parts with technical failings but it definitely ain't a deal-breaker. I think I noticed too that a few of the cast in the discussions scenes was a bit iffy. Very negligible tho. Where I have issue with the CGI is I'm shots where Godzilla is shown from a wide angle, he looks funny from afar and still like a statue. His walking also seems weird. And I don't know why I always looked into his eyes when it's close enough. His eyes just looks like a doll or something lifeless. Most times. These are just disturbances and didn't ruin the fun or impacted viewing for me in any way. The wartime story had already done it's job. The beginning shot you talked about might look iffy but I believe many of the shots of the movie especially the ships were practical effects mixed with CGI. I'm sure of this cos I watched the BTS of the moving and the ships were practical sets. Asides these parts it's CGI mostly holds up and was nice to see. Dunno but I feel the bulk of the budget went to the scenes where Godzilla used his atomic breathe. Godzilla charging his spikes just before that blast is a work of ART. At worst this film gets a 6.5/10 from me. |

Illusioneffect: Perhaps you haven't seen enough Japanese movies/series. They are like just like the regular Yoruba illiterate or tout that opens their whole mouth just to converse. It's only a few of their actors that are able to converse without the mouth wide thing. |

Gojira I enjoyed it. The ending was too tight. Image 1: I think I rewinded this scene like 3 or 4 times, the say dem off Godzilla light, too funny. Image 2: See as them wear a whole Godzilla fanny packs for everywhere. Image 3 and 4: You can actually feel how pissed Godzilla was. Nigga was forking angry. Overall rating: 7/10.

WriterNig: I swear, I am in love with this woman because what is in her head is extremely valuable, but why she would act this kinda movie is just beyond me. I am even surprised she has 2 Children and none of them could dissuade her from taking this movie role. That was also how Meryl Streep flaunted her Buttocks In โDonโt Look Upโ. Itโs just as if ostentatious display of โTotoโ and โPreekโ means nothing to these Oyinbo people. Kai! Sango forbid bad thing. 1 Like 1 Share |
