In developed worlds , you even attend addiction clinics or homes where they help you reduce it till you are clean ( ie stop using ) .

Reminds me when Pope Francis said that when a prostitute decides to use latex condoms with all her clients, that her salvation is near, people went on rampage. Imagine someone who didn't care about her life and safety but decided to take care of it, with time, she would understand that condoms aren't enough and eventually stop such lifestyle too

I agree with you. If determination and self effort are sufficient for salvation then Christ did not need to die.

The problem is that we try to administer spiritual remedies to the fallen human state and we have not fully understood the utter depravity of mankinds fallen state. We try to enlist its help in walking with God which is impossible.

Humbly, I think the pastor is not a teacher ( neither am I) , he seems to me to be more of an evangelist - prophet type and it may be that he did not build a logical foundation for his thesis which is simply that the grain of wheat must die to its own strength in order to receive the new life. Telling the person to keep watching may not be necessary. It may be enough to tell the person not to be discouraged when/if they fall.

You're saying this because you don't understand how addiction works. Rehabilitation clinics don't abruptly remove their drug addictef patients off drugs. What they do is to wean their bodies off the drugs by giving them reduced intakes while cleansing their system. Abruptly stopping an addiction will lead to a relapse 99% of the time

I totally agree with you on this one! The solution given by Damina sound like the most practical and realistic solution I've ever heard, not just for porn, but for any type of addiction. Those criticising him are simply being ignorant and hypocritical. Of course a lot of self professed Christians in Nigeria are nothing but just judgemental hypocrites like the pharisees of old. If you check very well, 9 out of 10 of the loudest critics are closet wankers.

It is practically IMPOSSIBLE to stop an addiction overnight. Be it porn or cocaine or any drug whatsoever. The most practical way to stop an addiction is by gradually replacing it with something else which is less harmful.
