I was in the market yesterday and the woman attending to me said "If not for Yahoo guys, sales would have been very poor".

I shook my head and I had to school her on the effects of this menace on our society.
In my usual characteristics, I would have ignored her because minding my business is something I've come to fall in love it. But, I just couldn't let that depraved mentality slide.

I told her how victims of this crime, in most cases, are pushed to the brim of committing suicide. I was really disappointed, a mother for that matter!

I keep saying it, "yahoo boys" are in no way different from a "robber". But some of us, like the woman I encountered, have tried to promote this evil menace to a comfortable pedestal and glorify it. After all, they don't go about demanding the money menacingly. That is what they will use to justify this evil act.

Our Society is in trouble as the fabrics of morality have been eaten up by worms!

To show you the selfish nature of man, I told her she would feel the effect of this menace when she falls a victim and she was quick to interject me with "God forbid!"

Opay and palmpay platform is what is used by criminals and yahoo yahoo to perpetuate their enterprise.

My dad was a victim of same problem this year. All his funds in his account was funnel into an opay account.

All banks are used for fraud, stop thinking only digital banks are being used.

It's just that digital banks are very fast when it comes to depositing and transferring.

The name is not fake. It's is the name on the bvn used to open the opay account. An account that can recieve 3m must have bvn. The Cecilia could even be an innocent POS operator who they collect her account to rob people and promise her a good charge. The real criminals are long gone, it's the Cecilia girl that will suffer the burnt that is coming.

You can't deposit such amount on opay now without a valid means of identification and NIN. I was blocked recently by opay and they're asking me for additional verification but I'm not in town. So I strongly believe the name is valid either a Yahoo guy took advantage of someone else or not. If law enforcement agency could get the person arrested, he or she will tell them who's working for.

When you use your main account to do online transactions

You expose yourself to scammers

My main account don't even have ATM

I just transfer from it to my account I use for ATM and otter online transactions

Until faceless " banks" like Opay are scrapped, this type of mishap would continue.

Very little attention to KYC(Know Your Customer) documentation.

It is not every Fintech App that suits a country full of criminally minded people.

I thought phone numbers are linked to NIN? Online Banks send verification messages to potential account owners for verification na or are you saying those guys hack text messages too to complete the verification exercise before the account is granted?

Verification is sent to number you're registering your account with. The number doesn't have to matched with the one you registered NIN.

This days I don't use ATM card, I would rather transfer the cash to you, reason been that there is what is call Skimmer, if this is put on a POS machine or ATM machine you will not know, once you use such ATM machine or POS the machine will take screenshort of your ATM front and back Number... there is another number hidden under that thick black line at the back of ATM, the skimmer stuff is capable of getting such number with your pin... once every detail has arrive they will just clone your Card and use it at will ....

You can't get access to my account without me clicking phishing mail so am safe with just electronic transfer

The transaction limits apply to "normal" users.
Fraudsters regularly transact above limits.
It is obvious they have special methods not available to the public.

Money does not just disappear.
One of these happens before an account suffers fraudulent attack.
1. The customer must have their compromised sensitive banking details.
2. An insider in the bank sold off the banking detail.
3. A loved one ran the street job.

But most of the time, customers will vehemently deny 1 and 3 possibilities, pinning it wholly on the bank. You may not like to hear the truth, but most of the time it is usually between 1 and 3.

1. Always log out of your banking app.
2. Keep your atm cards from public view.
3. Mind where you make POS transactions. Nor be anywhere you see POS you go shook card put.
4. Once you notice unauthorized deductions, even if it is an insignificant amount, quickly log into your app and freeze your cards. Some people ignore at first when the first unauthorized deduction is small amount. Boom! The big deductions follow immediately. Those criminals usually test the hack by trying small amounts first.
5. Have your bank customer care number handy in case you need to quickly report strange activities.
6. Stop giving your cards out to anyone to help you run errands. They may not cheat you. But you cannot be sure how well they will protect your card details when they are out there.

Always get facts correctly.
Opay, Palmpay, Monies point etc, you MUST link your bank details plus BVN before you can do any sort of transaction.
They will confirm your bank details and BVN matches before your account will be functional.
2. Your phone number is your bank account minus the preceding zero. Nobody uses someone's phone number to open an account.
She might be one of all these dubious POS agents who help thieves to collect money so they will not be traceable.
