I don't get? the Ciampino Airport is about 15km from the Vatican city itself and the Vatican is very small why would it need an Airport? Over 85% of Italians are Catholics and about 87-90% are Christians. The Pope is the Bishop of Rome, and the Italian government pays the Catholic priests so I don't get your point.
