The levy is 0.005 without the act adding %. There is no where in the act where the levy was said to be 0.5%. If the law say 0.005 is the levy, it should not be misinterpreted to mean 0.5%. The only reasonable interpretation is 0.005%.
You didn't do basic mathematics in school??

0.5% means 0.5/100, which is the same as 0.005 of whatever amount that is in question.

Na, 0.5% and 0.005% can never be the same mathematically.

Stop being a nuisance. There is no % for 0.0005 check the circular, olodo.

I think this clarifies it. I am not aware of the amendment. It is a very useless rent seeking law that should be repealed.

When are you apologizing for the so called "misinformation" I made Seun?

He's very quick in throwing tantrums.

Now that he has been corrected, instead of apologizing, he still left his initial comment.

There is no lacuna there.. 0.005 is the same as 0.5%..

0.005 of 1000 is the same as saying 0.005*1000 or 0.5%*1000

This is not the issue of reference.

Problem was that there was no percentage behind the 0.005 number in the initial Act which led to ambiguity.

However, Fergie clarified that this has been resolved in the recent amendment.

So is it 0.5 or 0.05

It's 0.5% or 0.005 multiplied by the qualifying amount.

75% of x means 0.75 multiplied by x
10% means 0.1
0.5% means 0.005

What the new levy means is if you do 1million naira transfer, the bank will charge you an extra 5,000 naira to be sent to the NSA office for “cybersecurity”.

And if you send 2million, bank will charge you extra 10,000 naira.

If you transfer 1 million naira two times in a week, you will be charged #10,000 for cyber security levy.

It’s crazy at this point.
This is mass financial strangulation. This Lucifer Govt has offered the masses nothing, all it has been doing is to take and take from everyone.
it should also mean if your bank account got hacked by any means the NSA will pay you back to the last kobo that was taken from your account

What I mean is 0.5% and 0.005 are mathematically the same.

The levy is 0.5% (or 0.005)
oga stop there

0.5 is outrightly different from 0.05

Same way 50 naira is different from 500 naira

0.005 of anything is the same as saying 0.5% of anything.. Una get sense so??
this is one thing about aggressively ignorant people

So let’s talk about 10000

0.005 of 10000 is 50

0.5 of 10000 is 5000

So is 50 n 5000 the same?
Re: What 0.5% CBN Cyber Security Levy Means by Freebills12: 5:02pm On May 07
Tinibu and unfair taxation!
If not court we will be paying for owning a car.
Vat
Stamp duty
Electronic transfer charge
Now cybersecurity tax
After paying these taxes Yahoo boys that didn't finish secondary school will still empty someone's account! Kidnappers will request for money through transfer. Nothing will still happen.
Re: What 0.5% CBN Cyber Security Levy Means by OALandAgents: 5:15pm On May 07
Emefiele and Buhari performed better than Cardoso and Tinubu

If I was in power the tax I would introduce would be taxes on purchases of luxury items.
Hike prices on importation of luxury goods.
Taxes on visa applications
Taxes on flight tickets
Tax any food or products being imported that we are capable of producing in Nigeria.
Tax expatriate visas
Tax expat accommodation
Tax expat security
Provided the revenue accrued is used to judiciously to develop infrastructure and industrialisation.
Kingsmeal:
From Emefiele to Cardoso, APC remains the same. Multiple taxation.

For every transaction you initiate, you must pay.

Electronic levy
Stamp duty levy,
Account maintenance levy,
VAT,
cybersecurity levy.
Next?
Next?
Next?

Multiple multiple taxation.

I have never seen any country in the world, whose government imposes multiple taxation on her citizens via banking like Nigeria.

Well, Bad government must consume us all. Both the foolish supporters and the sincere opposers. Dem no dey telly person dat one.

Now better explained. It means "LEVY THE TRANSFERORS NOT THE TRANSFEREES". IT IS JUST LIKE VAT COLLECTED FROM THE BANKS. THE LEVY SHOULD BE 7.5%-10% NOT 0.5%.

What's the NSA office doing with cyber security funds that will amount more than a trillion naira on cyber security? This people are going haywire

It is 0.5%.

Mathematically, 0.005.... it's one and same.

Take out the last two zeros...... It becomes 200 naira, divide by 2.... You are paying 100 naira levy.

Read what is in the first law that I based my argument on and read how it was corrected in the amendment made to the law. It’s so funny seeing empty heads trying to explain to me that 0.5% is the same as 0.005 when all I said was that 0.5% and 0.005% are not the same. If the law was not amended, the right percentage would have been 0.005% and nothing else.
