The CEO of Binance, Richard Teng, in a post on Tuesday, stated that the House Committee on Financial Crimes, chaired by Ginger Onwusibe (LP, Abia), demanded money from representatives of Binance during a meeting at the National Assembly Complex in January.

The Federal Government says the bribery allegation by Binance is a diversionary strategy to run away from their wrongdoings

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known in a statement issued by his media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the minister, the Federal Government is aware of attempts by Binance to launder its impaired image as an organisation that does not play by the rules and laws guiding business conduct in sovereign nations.

“The Organisation made false allegations of bribery against unidentified Nigerian Government officials, who it claimed demanded 150 million dollars in cryptocurrency payments to resolve the ongoing criminal investigation against the company.

“This claim by Binance lacks any iota of substance. It is nothing but a diversionary tactic and an attempted act of blackmail by a company desperate to obfuscate the grievous criminal charges it is facing in Nigeria.

“While this lawful investigation was going on, an executive of Binance, who was in court-sanctioned protective custody, escaped from Nigeria, and he is now a fugitive from the law.

“Working with the security agencies in Nigeria, Interpol is currently executing an international arrest warrant on the said fugitive.

“The phantom bribe claim is part of an orchestrated international campaign by this company that is facing criminal prosecution in many countries including the United States, to undermine the Nigerian Government,” Mr Idris said.

The minister recalled that, a week back, the founder and former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, was sentenced to prison in the United States after pleading guilty to similar charges to what Binance was being investigated for in Nigeria.

He added that Mr Zhao agreed to pay a fine of 50 million, while Binance is liable for 4.3 billion dollars in fines and forfeitures to the US Government.

“We would like to remind Binance that it will not clear its name in Nigeria by resorting to fictional claims and mudslinging media campaigns.

“The only way to resolve its issues will be by submitting itself to unobstructed investigation and judicial due process.

“The Federal Government will continue to act within its laws and international norms and will not succumb to any form of blackmail from any entity, local or foreign,” Mr Idris stressed. (NAN)

It's very hard to trust a known and prolific thief who has been and is still stealing and grabbing the nation's resources for themselves and their friend's, whenever you see Nigerian politicians defending and rejecting any allegation just know they did it hook, line and sinker.

Binance is the cause of Nairas appreciation against the dollar has piped down because the clueless rogues have realised there are other forces at play and not just what they blamed for their failures.

I only pity the morons that keep on believing this classic group of Nairas bandits selling them the zobo of Nigeria will be great again, Dey play.

We see the FG agreeing with the HOR on this.
One again wonders why the officials are on the run, if their hands were clean. You cannot sabotage an entire nation and expect a standing ovation.

Again, the allegation against the committee on financial crimes appears a ruse and diversionary. Except there is clear evidence backing the claim, it must be worthless. With the escape from custody of one of their officials, the crimes alleged are well known to the public and look believable. The committee stated that Binance officials never appeared before them. Except they met privately, then something must be wrong with Binance somewhere. Subverting the economy of an entire nation must not be taken lightly, so the allegation of demand for US 150 m, does not make any sense, knowing the seriousness of the matter. It is already an EFCC and DSS matter and well beyond the reach of the committee, or their ability to demand bribe to stop their arrest and prosecution.

Believe anything from Nigeria at your own peril.

I'm sure majority of Nigerians believe the Binance CEO allegation.

Like this post if you believe the Binance CEO is saying the truth about bribe being demanded from them by Nigerian lawmakers. Share if you don't believe the allegation is true.

The truth be told, we don't have a known thief and drug lord as our president in Nigeria grin. For the committee, is he the only person in that committee? What is the name of the person(s) in that committee that demanded for money? Why are these useless people trying to shift the goal post?

Amazing stuff.
You just can't trust a Nigerian politician who is actively stealing from the masses.

Nigerian politicians are just corrupt, they steal from the masses and whoever and whatever they can lay their hands on.

I'm surprised Peter Gbajue has not reacted since this news broke few days ago because the allegation involved his LP house of representatives member who happens to chair the committee. If the allegation was directed at the executive arm of Government and his party member not involved, you will see him foaming in the mouth as usual
Reno was right about that fraudster.

As far as I'm concerned the bribery allegation is true undecided

Most people in Nigeria are always looking to cash out either by hook or by crook!

seunmsg, Now  that the Tinubu administration has waded into the bribery allegations and described it as diversionary, I believe you should shut down your thread, which was purely an attempt to bring LP and its candidate into disrepute.
