I have a US student visa for my PhD in the USA. Also, I just got a scholarship for MSc in Italy 🇮🇹. I love the European countries a lot and I feel like giving it a shot since I have already been to the US before (had a masters degree there) Advice? |

I am curious, why did you not use your OPT after your master, I am also doing msc in US but don't want to go PhD way, so I will like to know why you didn't go OPT way. |

Funnyman:Maybe he started searching for work late. You can't be unemployed more than 90 days on opt and if you didn't start like a year in advance, high chance you might not use it |

Funnyman:I didn’t go the OPT way because the jobs I was able to get after my degree, in my opinion, were not worth my while. So I decided to do a PhD . Came back to Nigeria to renew my F-1 visa sometimes around November . But something happened and I couldn’t use the visa to travel. So I had to wait in Nigeria aand I recently just applied and got a new visa cuz of the 5month SEVIS rule @tensazangetsu20 |

US for sure. Unless the Italian route comes with the prospect of citizenship. |

Namaster:Citizenship is tied to jobs. Italy isn't the best place to be a successful skilled black professional. Also, citizenship by naturalisation - except he marries an Italian - takes ten years to qualify. Wonder why he chose Italy for PhD, rather than the US then do NIW. |

Gerrard59:No. I chose USA for PhD and Italy for MSc. If trump enters the White House, I’m afraid that could jeopardise NIW option |

Rdfactor:Then, the US. It is a no-brainer. It is the best place to be a skilled black professional. Way more economic opportunities. Higher salaries. Way easier to see a woman who will want to marry you. Enter Atlanta or the Texas area. One woman must gree. ![]() I recall one second Nigerian who studied at one notable Italian university and then did his PhD at Oxford. He works (as of then) at a notable AI Pharmaceutical company in the UK. I seriously doubt he would have enjoyed such an opportunity in Italy, which is not noted for biotech exploits. Not sure as it has been a long time since I viewed the page, but e be like na this firm I saw his profile: https://www.exscientia.ai/careers |
