Love800:Did my post suggest cutting government out entirely? Definitely not. But plan your life as if you aren't depending on government is the way to have peace of mind. Keep on depending on the same entity and you will keep getting slammed. |

Blue3k:is Nigeria a tax dependent economy? No, Nigeria isn't a tax dependent economy, so these things shouldn't be a problem for us. even the Great Britain that is dependent economy has a welfare system in place for it's citizens, why not Nigeria that had the resources plus tax to flaunt? |

Love800:its very simple, With level of insecurity in the nation, farm produce are barely enough to meet the ordinary market demand, should govt decide to Buy from farmers it will be in Large scale that is like mobbing up supply what we have seen from covid & the recently palliative scheme have shown govt would hoard junk of the foodstuff in warehouses All these put together means farmers will have lesser supply for the main market ... and when demand overwhelm supply Prices will skyrocket. Abundances is the best possible way to crash inflation, govt should open land borders and reduce duty .. let products flood the market prices g |

modernWays:Really? Like magic, I suppose. But why haven't a lot of mechanised farms sprung up already? Might it be because the farmers don't make enough money to buy mechanised? Or is it that their farms are too small for mechanised. Produce at more expensive rate, is more likely. At least to pay back the loan for their mechanised and to pay the staff to run it. |

Babysho:The more debt the government accrues, the less value there is in the Naira. And whom do you think would get taxed to pay that debt if not the ordinary citizens who likely wouldn't have benefitted from the loan? N30k ($19.71, £15.54) has little value, and theres nothing anyone can do to put more value into it. |

KnowAll:Are you saying all Nigerians (both Govt and private company) workers will get subsidised houses plus free transport? How will all the workers genuinely access subsidised food I beg?? It won't work in this Nigerin setting |
| Re: Maintain Minimum Wage At N30,000.00 But Give Workers 3 Things??? by Babysho(m): 5:10pm On May 16, 2024 |
budaatum:There are actually a thousand ways that we can add value to the naira and I just gave one. I said if the government would REALLY invest in agriculture to the point that we feed ourselves and export. Yes we might accumulate debt at first but just like a business eventually you start making profit. But our political space is run by the elites who are white underneath the black skin and their focus is on exporting cash crops because Nigeria to them is not even their home, it's just a plantation for profit. All the ways to add value to the naira begins with the citizens taking back their country politically. Join MOPCENTRE on Instagram so we can liberate ourselves. |

Wow. I understand now. Thanks so much. But apart from government hoarding the food and making it scarce, is it still a good idea for government to subsidize farm produce? theredaddy: |
| Re: Maintain Minimum Wage At N30,000.00 But Give Workers 3 Things??? by budaatum: 6:03pm On May 16, 2024 |
Babysho:As you have noted, government to whom Nigeria is just a plantation for (personal) profit, can not add value to the Naira. Adding value to naira, is making every Naira produce more. A cassava grower, for instance, adds value to their Naira by processing it into something else. And until Nigeria starts adding such value (see how long it's taken us to build a value adding private crude oil refinery!), the value of Naira would continue falling. We need to be more productive. That's what adds value to a currency. |

KnowAll:Your solution is problematic. A policy that will not cost a dime, that isn't prone to corruption and that would provide the government revenue should be the focus. If you want to assist workers, lift the ban on the importation of rice and place a 20% duty on it. Reduce import duty on wheat from 70% to 20%. Lift the ban on importation of poultry and place an import duty of 20% on it. This will bring down the price of food. These policies are not only easy to implement but would earn the FG massive revenues of at least $500m in import duty a year. The government wants to end the petrol subsidy to save money. Your advice would cost the government a lot of money and might also be very open to corruption. I am not a fan of gimmicks such as CNG buses. You can be certain that in a few years, these buses would no longer be in use. The FG is just throwing the masses a bone. |

KnowAll:No.3 was implemented in Venezuela and it is one of the reasons why the country today is an economic basket case. The best way to assist workers is for the economy to boom and create jobs. If the economy grows faster than 7%, the economy begins to create not just enough jobs for those entering the labour market in a year but can do with some extra. If the economy keeps growing fast, soon, there will be an employees market, where workers are priced. Gradually, employees are in a better position to dictate wages. Unemployment in Nigeria is over 30%. This is outrageous. Under Jonathan, it was about 8%. Buhari really wrecked the economy. Employers are able to dictate the tune |

budaatum:I agree and it's not even rocket science or anything. Even some of the political elites know this but if they implement these things, all of them will have to forgo their white man things. Because if they fix up the Nigerian refinery, how will they help white corporations remain oil billionaires so they(our elites) continue their work on being house slaves and receiving their dog's food share of that shady, degrading, short-sighted business deal? The solution is for the citizens to organise themselves and create their own political party. Kuti family already committed class suicide and joined the side of the people, and Seun Kuti continued the political party of his father The Movement Of The People. Please endeavour to join and let friends know. |

Babysho:Glad MOP recognises the importance of education. We may grow all the crops we want, but without modern knowhow (gained through education), we can not compete with those with knowhow. Just consider our maize yield per hectare. Nigeria is 1.5-2 tons per hectare, while some countries achieve over 5 tons per hectare. Dangote Refinery is dead before it starts if it can't refine crude cheaper than imported, unless government taxes imports so they are less competitive. The fact that he imports cheaper crude from Texas should worry us in fact, as it's the same as importing maize which kills local production.

Nigerian is the only country where Agricultural supply is not Oligarchyly controlled. Even the west that espoused capitalism, the supply chains are carefully controlled making price differentials in major super markets little or no difference. I have seen the same oligarchycal manifestation in Southern Africa too. We need to grasp and hold Agricultural supply chains with some efficiency that has not be envisioned. |

budaatum:Yes, farmers don't make enough money from their investment due to lack of genuine support from government. 1. Poor storage facility. 2. Poor marketing or pricing system as majority of farm products dealers are mostly uneducated and still operating on traditional ways. 3. Lack of well structured agricultural loan and credit. 4. Land use act. 5. Lack of good road and experience labourers. If government can provide storage facilities, finance and ready markets for farm products, alot of big players will invest heavily in agriculture. |

Most of the Nigerian traders that are not salary earners will not be happy about this idea. Especially those selling things like rice, beans and the likes in the market. There is high rate of wickenedness to one another in Nigeria. Citizens to Citizens. Govt to Citizens |
