Unfortunately,it is only when they mention minimum wage for workers that even the gullible starts to talk from mouths that have not known to*thbrush since 2 weeks ago. These present crop of politicians in Nigeria today are wo*se than the d*vil itself. If priorities are given to things worth prioritising, things wouldnt av been this b*d.In a s*ne country, the well being of workers are given attention very seriously because it is only when a worker has eaten well that he or she would be able to discharge their duties well.Workers make these monies that our politicians spend carel*ssly without checking the consequences. To be honest, a decent wage should be given to workers.Inasmuch as Labour gave an outrageous amount intentionally,it is left for the govt to atleast make meaningful commitment to the proposal not to riddicule it with amount that a truck pusher would not accept in 2 weeks for labour.I believe that Organized Labour would re-consider their stand once the govt comes up with something tangible.Labour came up with 615k and govt is saying 48k so what do you think would have happened if Labour had proposed 200k as minimum wage?We have br*ins so we should always make use of it in times like this. 5 Likes |

Something seems to be wrong with the man if he mentioned that amount, unless it is typing error. Looks like he mentioned that amount so that labour will continue to drag with government and workers will have no increase in payment at all. 1000Capacity: 1 Like |

LilMissFavvy: Oftentimes there are other under laying discussion that are not opened to the public. So until those things are discussed and agreed upon, that's when you hear them say labor has agreed on 60k or 50k as minimum wage. Its their job, they know exactly what they are doing |

NLC never ready to collect anything. Where have you ever seen employers increase salary by 2,000% (two thousand percent). From 30,000 to 615,000 They should start negotiation a feasible amount like 100,000 to 150,000 minimum wages 1 Like |

Labour is making an unreasonable demand. Someone with a family of six should not be on minimum wage, that’s a recipe for poverty in any country in the world. The assumption should be that min wage is for people just starting out life and then as they rise through the ranks, they earn more. Having a regional figure makes sense and then should push for an hourly wage structure to give businesses / govt more flexibility when the job doesn’t require 40hrs/wk commitment. 1 Like |

Winnin009: You need to receive some sense. Dealing with corruption and oppression can never be via bogus wage demands, thereby worsening an already worse situation. Has Labour ever protested against corruption and outrageous salaries of politicians ? Oh you want government workers to also join in the treasury looting party ? And so what happens to the private sector population which constitutes over 96% of the total population ? Minimum wage of any country is a function of productivity and level of revenue. The minimum wage in Nigeria is among the lowest in the world because our GDP per capita is also among the lowest in the world. The total monies being stolen by public officers are not enough to pay N615k minimum wage, whereby a fresh graduate would now be earning like N2million per month! How many Nigerian private sector companies can afford that? 1 Like |

Labour are as unrealistic as the govt.which 25/30k gas u wan use cook for a month.Even 12k at current price of gas can take me for a month and 10days if a cook steady oooo. Another funny thing is calculating for a family of 6 for someone just starting a work .unless if thats the yardstick. Let both party be serious and agree in what is realistic. 1 Like |

ceejay80s: Seems you don’t get it. We should protest against treasury looting and the outrageous salaries and allowances of politicians. But the solution is not for government workers, who constitute not more than 5% of the population,to also join in the looting of the remaining treasury meant for over 200 million Nigerians. What about the private sector and other non government workers? Even at the current min wage, private sector companies are barely surviving ,so what happens to them ,with N615k minimum wage ?Everybody would have to go home!! Asking for N615k min wage,is tantamount to asking to join the looting of the treasury and Nigeria as a country would become worse for it! Our current productivity level and GDP per population,is too low and that’s why our minimum wage will continue to be among the lowest in the world, unless you want to turn Nigeria to Zimbabwe. 1 Like |

Oracleee: Enough of this hyperinflation talk. Zimbabwe's was because of sanction from Western nations and not minimum wage. Don't misinform the public about what you don't know. Focus on Nigeria and provide evidences to support your claim. This is going to be the third time for miimum wage increase in Nigeria after the minimum wage act was signed into law . Why was there no hyperinflation when Buhari signed 30k? It seems most of you assume that once minimum wage is reviewed upwards then every single Nigeria, (employed and unemployed), will automatically have much money in their pocket to cause hyperinflation. The number of civil servants in each state in Nigeria is not up to 5% of the population. So , please stop hallucinating about something you don't understand and face the reality that wages must be increased to meet up with current realities in the country . There's a minimum wage act which mandates it must be increased every 4 years so workers go home with a living wage. The resistance of you and your likes cannot stop it. You don't know more than the government who wants to increase it. If it would cause hyperinflation, they should know since they have economic experts to advise them. You and your likes don't have what it takes to advise the government on what to do. Your textbook economics knowledge is not enough. Even the world bank and IMF have not gone against it because they know it's needed at this time. 2 Likes |
