I think the correct thing to say is that the quantity of oxygen needed to keep your organs functioning is very minimal and that's the reason the Carbon monoxide takes up a large chunk of space on the lungs and then gradually displaces oxygen till the victim is choked out.

Bro, breathing is involuntary. You breathe in always, whether it's oxygen or nitrogen or whatever. If you can't breathe, you're either in a vacuum, in a chokehold or something is blocking your trachea.
That's why I said breathing CO is dangerous cos you're doing your normal breathing, air is entering your body but it's not oxygen and since you need oxygen more than every other gas you breathe in, before you realise it, it's too late. We were warned back then that if you suddenly start to feel lightheaded and sleepy in a closed room or car, get out immediately. Cos if you sleep, your next of kin will enjoy.

Asin you can imagine! They don’t even care about the people that voted them into power!! It’s in Nigeria you will see top government officials diverting money meant for the less privileged and the disabled ! No iota of empathy.

Another issue that should be made into jingles and advertisements by the Govt...this is unacceptable.

They are cheap and affordable they plug into the wall like phone chargers.
If the carbon monoxide is detected the alarm goes off.

Carbon monoxide itself is odourless.

While it is odourless, the gas is a byproduct of combustion that typically has a smell e.g. ICE exhaust gases, smoke from fires etc. But if carbon monoxide was created under laboratory conditions and piped into your room, you wouldn't smell anything. You would probably feel a bit drowsy and/or unwell and drift off to sleep...never to awaken again.

Well, the one (fume) that killed them could be perceived.

This one wan import the detector. Instead of that why don't they think of 24hours light. The trillions they r putting into Costal road and Hajj pilgrimage without economic benefits will be enough to fix light issues. We are not stupid.

Some werey people from one of our neighbouring country that used to call us "Generator Republic" might be right after all.

The government has failed the citizens. DISCOs have also failed the citizens. But let us do away with sentiments. No be the government say make dem no position the generator well. How are you even sure it was generator fume that killed them? What if food poison or substance abuse was the cause?

Imagine this level of contradiction. Decomposing bodies? How come one was still alive while 6 were already decomposing?

What about those who carelessly get themselves electrocuted when the government provides electricity? Know when to blame the government and when to blame individuals. I know about two men that died through illegal connection of wires to electric poles. One of them was a welder, it happened in his workshop.

Soot smells, unburnt fuel smells but they don’t kill you. They can give you cancer or lung disease. So the older it gets the more it smokes and smells. But that is not what kills you, if not people working in refineries or filling stations will all die.


What kills is a byproduct of incomplete combustion. During complete combustion CO2 and H20 are produced. Both are harmless. When it’s incomplete combustion CO, O2 and H2O are produced.

It is the CO that kills. Not the smell. So yes, knowledge of science is important

I agree with you but the process is a bit more complicated than you illustrated. There's no space on earth that air don't permeate no matter how minute therefore whenever any living being on earth inhales, oxygen is taken in as air is 21% oxygen and whenever the exposure of pure air is unrestricted, poisonous gases infiltrating our space has little or no effect. Issues arise when the quantity of the poisonous gas infiltrating our space far exceeds the air(oxygen) available to us. This is why it takes hours for death to occur. CO gradually displaces Oxygen and binds itself to the haemoglobin until no haemoglobin is available any longer for any oxygen molecule. My point is that there's no way any being is surviving 4 minutes of breathing a poisonous gas like CO alone without any Oxygen around.
