Lagos To Generate 60-75MW Of Electricity Using 96% Of All Waste From Landfills by Lanrelagboi(op): 6:24am On May 28, 2024
UPDATE: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu today witnessed the Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lagos State Government and Harvest Waste Consortium at the Lagos House, Ikeja. @harvestwaste

This partnership with Harvest Waste Consortium—a collaboration that promises to transform waste management and energy production in the State.

The construction and operation of a High Efficiency Waste-to-Energy (HE WtE) plant in Lagos State. This state-of-the-art facility, capable of processing 2,250 tonnes of waste per day, which represents a major step forward in the State’s Waste management strategy.

This project will:

i. provide a sustainable alternative to the current practice of waste dumping but will also divert more than 95-98% of our waste from landfill sites.

ii. This will significantly reduce the environmental footprint of our waste disposal methods and generate 60-75MW of baseload electricity annually, contributing to our energy security and diversification.

iii. This project is expected to save approximately 500,000 – 550,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas emissions per year.

iv. The project will stimulate economic activity, attracting major investments to Nigeria and creating 300-500 jobs during the construction phase and 110 permanent jobs over the plant’s operational lifespan of more than 25 years.

The HE WtE plant, to be located at the Epe landfill, which will utilize advanced technology to treat municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste.

This Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Harvest Waste Consortium promotes the spirit of collaboration and innovation.

This Partnership is fully backed by the Government of Netherlands. 🇳🇱 🇳🇬

And u are going to supply them with all equipment needed to build the plant? Also, the salary of all workers that will be working at the plant during and after construction? And why can you collect your free waste and generate electricity even for yourself?

Superb again from Lagos . Other States of Nigeria need this asap.

States with serious Governors should consider leveraging on what Lagos has done to gain tailor-made solutions for their waste challenges with the very welcomed added bonus of contributory gains to the power generation capacity of their States.

Kindly do your research. The law enabling the right for states to generate electricity was just signed a year ago. If not fpr that law, I dare say all states would have been generating electricity.
Lagos actually tried to do it under Tinubu. They had to sell the electricity to the grid.

This should not be news anymore.

Leaders are elected to make societies better. Nigerians have suffered so much in the hands of greedy leaders, whose only stock in trade is to steal, loot or embezzle recklessly our common patrimony. In embezzlement the politicians agree completely, while the foolish citizens fail to hold them accountable for their misdeeds.

Looking over the years in the past, Nigeria has been systematically underdeveloped by politicians. While great nations no longer talk about electricity, roads, agriculture and education, Nigerians still battle with mediocrity.

What is there to talk about with such low level electricity generation? Should Lagos, the commercial nerve center of the nation be talking about such by now? If politicians spent all the budgets in their positions, we should be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Singapore by now.

Unfortunately the citizens are blinded by politicians, who feed them crumbs and use tribalism to confuse them. For those who fall for those tricks, we can only say sorry to them.

Elect the right leaders and watch society grow speedily.
