I am deeply concerned by Jaafar Jaafar's recent commentary regarding the demolition of Alaba Rago Market by the Lagos State government. His narrative appears to distort facts, potentially leading to emotional manipulation of individuals from the northern regions, suggesting an adversarial stance by the Lagos State government against their interests and enterprises.

Let's recognize that the demolition of Alaba Rago Market was conducted in collaboration with various market stakeholders, including the Hausa community, with the objective of facilitating a comprehensive overhaul and modernization, thereby enhancing the commercial landscape for all patrons, regardless of ethnic affiliation.

It would be pertinent for Jaafar to recall instances such as the directive from his political godfather, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, who initiated significant demolitions of properties, reportedly motivated by political reprisals against the previous administration.

Firstly, Jaafar fails to acknowledge that the Kano State Government, led by the executive governor, has also conducted demolitions in the past. If he is genuinely concerned about demolitions affecting Northern communities, his criticism should extend to all instances, regardless of the geographical location or the political affiliation of the governing body.

Secondly, Jaafar's attempt to draw parallels between the demolition in Lagos and the events in Kano is misguided. The issues surrounding the Kano emirate saga involve cultural, historical, and political significance unique to the region. Comparing it to a local demolition in Lagos oversimplifies complex matters and detracts from meaningful discourse.

Jaafar's assertion that Northern leaders are solely focused on the Kano emirate saga while ignoring the plight of their constituents in Lagos is unfounded. It's unfair to assume their silence on one matter implies neglect or ulterior motives.

We shouldn't let ethnic bigotry blind us from truth.

Jafar Jagar is just a nonentity wasting his time with nonsense propaganda. No one should take him serious.

The market will be rebuilt and even the vice chairman of the market Alhaji Muhammad Lawal is in support and they are all looking to rebuild the market because the land still belong to them. Sanwo just want a modern market befitting of Lagos.

Let’s even say Lagos government demolish the market and send them all packing, is it not within Lagos right? No Northerner anywhere should be dictating what should happen in Lagos just as no Yoruba man will dictate what happens in Kano.
