History is rich and powerful, and when combined with motivation and psychology, it can gain an unstoppable momentum. I will not go any further, but pray that God take over Nigeria's affairs. We need to pray for our nation.

My brother, I see the anger in your writeup. I know you are angry, I feel the frustration Nigeria has brought on us. I feel the heartache when Nigeria comes up...

My prayer is that God would help you build great things in life and handover something great to your children and children's children.

You will not be replaced, God will help you to get it right my brother...

If you said amen or liked this my prayer for you, then it is not stupidity to pray that the God of all creation should grant this our one request, to help us, direct us, to build a nation where no man is oppressed...

stop saying nonsense, it was not a colonial anthem. Nigeria called for entries from people around the world for a new national anthem. Out of the total 45 entries. Lilian version was chosen.

She was an ordinary social worker employed by the Nigerian government. Ordinary person, the judges are Nigerians and they only selected her version due to merit.
By this time, the CIA and MI16 were the ones running the colonial enterprise, so the choice of the best anthem would have been made even before the competition but they needed to organize such a competition to get our consent.

This is what Mr. Noam Chomsky call "manufacturing consent" whereby a person or people unknowingly give consent to be controlled.

I know this for sure because the CIA and MI16 were later to choose a young writer named Wole Soyinka as the winner of the best poem for the event. Two years later (1962), they used him yet again, plus Chinua Achebe, Christopher Okigbo, Ezekiel Mphalele to get consent to destroy African languages in literature. This one is documented

This was when Nigeria was a beacon of hope and a shinning light among the comity of nations, hence the name giant of Africa.but today it has been turned to the clown of Africa.

While I never cared about this matter of National Anthem as I do not think it is a problem that needed to be fixed when there are real issues that need fixing, I agree with your assertion about the elderly Nigerians.

I believe their fixation with the old anthem that has now made a return, is because that was the anthem they were tutored with and mentally rejected the new anthem that the military government set for Nigeria.

In fact, the oldies saw in the new anthem the very decline of Nigeria, and attached themselves to the old anthem that epitomized the glorious days of Nigerian hope and potential for greatness.

I am not surprised that President Tinubu and the old politicians in the National Assembly, also haboured this same bias against the newer anthem to the point that they felt a need to correct it.
You're simply ignorant. As at 1959 when this anthem was composed, Nigeria was no more than the average backward African country where most Nigerians had never sat in a car or even worn decent clothes. Rural life was more prevalent then. Nigeria did not have a single power station or refinery to its name as at then.
As at 1978 when the new anthem came up, Nigeria had two power stations and two refineries. So which of the two dates will be glory days from an informed mind's perspective?
Nigeria's glory days was the 70s not 60s.
Go and get your facts correct

You can go and ask your father's and mothers.
Is national anthem our problem in this country? Changing NEPA to PHCN did it solve anything about darkness?

Prices of things are high you are here talking about national anthem.
Why can't they get back the old exchange rate at #150 per dollar, old bag of rice at #9,000, cement at #1,800. Spaghetti at #80 , custard rubber of garri to #350

These idiots just sit in one place and can't put their brains to use to the extent anthem has suddenly become their problem. I am embarrassed that we are paying these animals with public funds . And the old man in Aso rock everything about his one year has been terrible. He has ruled just one year and the country is in a total mess . I can't imagine this man more years to run.

You are right.

Also, there is one thing I noted about Tinubu, he is a thinker and a doer. That man is so powerful that he can do anything and no one will raise a feather.

He should not waste his power, he should effect restructuring once and for all. All those lies we always hear that it depend on the National Assemble bla bla bla are just nonsensical statement. Tinubu can get most things done by lobbying them, he should make sure he see to fruition all the items in the restructuring. anything wey wan happen make e happen.

ACN bloc campaigned all their life about restructuring, it will be the greatest disservice if Tinubu won't complete that restructuring with all the power it seems he wields. 3 more years to go, we wait!
Lol. Thinker and doer indeed. When is he going to think and do minimum wage? At least, even your very self has been clamoring for new minimum wage since last year!
Why didn't he think and do the invasion of Niger to enforce democracy? Someone who clearly cowered when the north roared against an invasion of Niger is who you think will restructure the country which the north is very much against. You joke too much!!

Leave them, the only thing that mattered to them is their Agulu Socio Media President.

They lost are still dreaming that they won on sociomedia. I pitied them. In every change there is always a dip before a rise. Nigeria will shine again.

My brother we struggle the same struggle, the fact that my patriotism has not allowed me to loose faith in Nigeria (not government) does not mean I collect money from politics...

The problem with us my friend is you've lost sight of the most important thing about a nation...

Our flag is a symbol, our anthem is our confession, the two are banners we must hand on to our children without stain...

My brother though our tribe, tongue, religion, political affiliation may differ...
Let's stand together in brotherhood and make Nigeria great again...
I don't know what this government have in store, I don't know if they deliberately put us all in hunger but my brother my patriotism would make me believe in handing on to our children a banner without stain...

I love you my brother..

I read with tears your submission my brother, you speak like a true freedom fighter of the masses...
I have come to realize something, in trying times even those without clue will criticize.

I have learnt in my short life journey so far, the loudest voices of blind opposition are actually clueless... When oppositions do not see little wins, when all oppositions see is darkness... They can never lead us to the light because they see darkness...

So my brother there are little wins in your life too celebrate them and see the light. You woke up this morning, it's a win, your wife, babe, or side chick, gave you a peck or kiss it's a win. You go work or shop you sold an item on your shelf for 4months it's a win my brother...

A beger asked you for money for food and you gave him food it's a win for you and for him/her celebrate your little wins my brother.

Together we shall witness Nigeria rise again, in good health in peace and brotherhood we shall hand on the banner of Nigeria without stain...

The problem of Nigeria is not in changing her Anthem

We were using "We hail thee" when had Biafra war

I knew this old anthem as far back as when I was in primary school. My mum taught me the anthem and since then I fell in love with it.

I prefer that old anthem because it talks and preaches our unity in diversity.

It was Obasanjo, he mainly wanted a new anthem as the military guys and some political class then believed we should do away with any relics of the old anthem.

I will predict that it got changed basically because Obasanjo the then head of state wants it.
That's a lie. It got changed because there's been opposition to it since day 1 that it was unveiled. The Egbe Omo Oduduwa raised a committee that was gathering signature against the anthem. So it just wasn't about OBJ.

It is natural....hey waved flags to it in 1960, sang same during assembly, schools, etc.

The exact same way some of us got glued to the new one..... It will take ages to get off it but I know from my history of Nigeria, a Govt will come in and revert to Arise O Compatriots.....
Before nko
Tinubu was not in Nigeria when Arise o' Compatriots was adopted so it's obvious he never felt any attachment to it. So this personal vendetta over national ideals is what had always been killing this country. There's been opposition to the anthem since the day it was released and tinubu is bringing it back because that's the only anthem he knows and it was OBJ who got the new one. Train about selfishness!!

It wasn't composed by a Nigerian. In order to embrace Nigerianess new flag design, Anthem and pledge were done by Nigerians

Your impression of this reappeared anthem is just it for me. And very true, the decline of Nigeria started after this "Arise oh Compatriots" introduction.

The decline was officially recognized with Shagari's Economic stabilisation act of 1982,popularly known as austerity measures. But why the reintroduction,is it the instruction from these politicians coven grin

No president of Nigeria will ever do restructuring because it will amount to reducing his own power. Restructuring will also never be advanced by anyone at the centre because it will reduce their power. Only opposition parties at the state level will cry for it. If they get power at the centre, they will always abandon it - to a man.

The only way out is if it is done futuristically - namely that a government will pass the laws against a future date when it has left power.

As for Tinubu being a thinker and doer, the fact is he didnt think about the manner of his removal of subsidy and floatation of the naira and he is certainly not thinking about the searing hardship Nigerians are experiencing under his watch. Most Nigerians will remember his time with deep bitterness for the hunger, pain and death it has visited on them - and this will be the case no matter how much you sing his praises.

StOla:
Like the other poster asserted, my mum who was born in the early 1950s also referred positively to that anthem a lot while I was growing up.

So it would seem it is a generational thing as the oldies yearn for the glorious days of their childhood, while we who were shaped in the military mould, hold on to the things the military gave to us.

If a return to old anthem can be done, then a return to regional governments or better political restructuring can be effected by a democratic government.

It is time for democratic Nigeria to shape Nigeria, instead of just living the system the military regimes put in place to usher a return to democracy.

Tinubu got balls. Let him move beyond this mental rejiging of Nigerians and see through with the necessary changes to national life.
Please see the above as per restructuring.
As to Tinubu's balls, some have balls of steel, but he's got balls to steal.

Nigeria na scam in every ramifications, I can never enter any competition that's totally in the purvey of government agencies or ministries to supervise....I remember the EFCC logo design in early 2000 or thereabout; I submitted a logo design using CorelDraw and spending monies on printing my submission which was an eagle in the same kind of circle; anybody who used CorelDraw then will understand what I'm saying only for the winner to go unannounced or announced under the radar ......; I believe my logo design was used with modifications.....it still rankles till today though I've moved on undecided undecided undecided undecided
