Learn programming in Nigeria is really challenging and i would like to hear from you guy.
I have issues since i was 13 years old but now am 14, issues are:
A. low internet access - i can get internet only 2 or 3 times in a month, and it only last for 2 hours maxium
B. Electricity issue - especially now that am in Gombe there is no light at all. 4units = 1000naira

Gombe is nothing but hell if you only have access to 2hrs of Internet.
Get solar to fix the problem of electricity

You're 14...wao, I love your zeal to learn programming at this age. At 14 I was keeping vigils almost every night on my play station console.

To your question...if you live with your parents, involve them. Cos at 14 you definitely do not have the funds you'll need to pursue this dream.

After involving your parents and convincing them of how serious you are in taking this path, look for IT centers in gombe, make inquiries and choose any of the programming courses they offer.

Now, to the issues you highlighted which are Internet and electricity, you don't really need Internet for programming especially for someone like you who is just starting. Once you have the software installed in your laptop, you're good to go.

As for the power issues, if you have a good laptop with strong battery life. You can practice for at least 3 hours everyday before it runs down.

Don't give up.

At 14, I will focus on being good at algorithms. Probably If you get good enough within the next few years, you can go represent Nigeria at the international Olympiads for informatics and probably be able to get into an ivy league university.
Re: The Best Way To Learn Programming In This Nigerian Situation by Kaczynski:
Learn maths seriously in secondary school then proceed to do electrical engineering in uni with interest in cpp and asm

Take further maths, physics and maths like your life depends on it

make friends with weebs , e get y

Self-sponsorship because the same National Mathematical Foundation organises all events for International Olympiads in Nigeria. If that of mathematics can be scrapped, what is informatics ni?

I always thought Gombe was that state which enjoys almost 24/7 electricity, especially as it is in the north. Follow the advise by Nazgul. Also, when seeking admission, choose either Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science. Don't go for any engineering course except Elect/Elect. The rest have little bearing with software engineering. Also, the first three are slated for four years, engineering is five years. The earlier you leave the system, the better.

Five years. Leaving the system early enough is important.

Mathematics and Physics offer more learning opportunities for algorithms and data structures.

Computer engineering comes across as a course needed for jobs in the hardware side, of which there are very few companies and salaries are lower.

Most computer engineering undergrads get work experience while in school

Computer engineering is combination of electrical engineering and computer science

Anyone with a degree in computer engineering can work anywhere . Computer engineering no be just hardware . Na hardware + software . Computer engineering is underrated . In this life two courses make bank ; engineering and medicine

They do have light. Read his post again, he said they they buy 4 units for 1k which means they're on band A. And last time I checked, band A enjoys almost 20 hours of uninterrupted power supply.

The blackout might be coming from his folks who are trying to manage their units by turning on their meter for a few hours per day.

Since you said you don't have access to Internet, there's no need to waste your time on online courses. Look for places in your location where they run physical classes. That way, you won't have to worry about Internet.

Not necessarily. They need to update regularly which is where there's a lot of data consumed checking and ultimately downloading the updates. You can turn those off (not recommended) and download updates say monthly

Somewhat restricting. Best to have your first degree in a broad field like Computer Science (or Physics), then you can specialise with your masters.

It is still very good. Just don't participate in a 5-year program when there are 4-year alternatives leading to the same destination.
