exactly it's not as if the person who wrote it forced it on us... It was an open contest and Nigerians were the judges majorly the wordings of the anthem is apt anyway

For me, I love the now old anthem but when I saw the words in the one we readopted, I'm convinced that it's more quality than the previous one.

She was an ordinary social worker employed by the Nigerian government. Ordinary person, the judges are Nigerians and they only selected her version due to merit.

If not that you are mentally deranged you won't spend valuable time and energy proving to us that what Tinubu did was right even in the midst of the numerous problems facing Nigeria, Tinubu's priority is to return Old National Anthem as if the anthem will reduce the sufferings of Nigerians. I also don’t care about the new national anthem, infact I think Tinubu shouldn’t have done it because I don’t think it’s what we need right now. But he already done it, so we don’t have a choice than to accept. People should have protested it before the NASS pass it if truly we don’t want it.

However, as someone from the young generation, the first time I ever heard the old national anthem was in the movie “October 1st” by Kunle Afolayan. There was a scene where one teacher was teaching the students in preparation for October 1st Independence Day.

I watched that movie with my brother, the first thing me and my brother uttered was “Why did we changed this lovely anthem”. We loved that anthem immediately we heard it. That was when I now went to read more on why it was changed and etc.

I heard the anthem some years ago and I asked the same bolded question your brother asked.

That's a lie. It got changed because there's been opposition to it since day 1 that it was unveiled. The Egbe Omo Oduduwa raised a committee that was gathering signature against the anthem. So it just wasn't about OBJ.

In the news you shared, there was no where it was stated that Egbe Omo Oduduwa was the one getting the signatures.

The AG mentioned in the paper is for a different reason. Dailyservice newspaper has more Nigerian outlook before they later joined the Action group at a later year. The paper just made mention of people getting signature. People could be anybody, it could be Ibo, Yoruba, or Hausa part of the populace who have mixed feeling about the lady composing the anthem for the new country.

Also that paper is somewhere before October 1960, so how does Obasanjo come into the picture then and why is this a proof to backup your argument?

The second photo below was where it was announced that miss Lilian Williams won the competition. She was a social worker employed by Nigeria government. She was selected from a shortlist of 45 entries from all around the world.
