Scent leaf doesn't spoil the taste, but it is weird to a typical akwa ibom/ efik people when they see or heard someone using scent leaf to cook edikang ikong soup this I know very well.
Another thing is it will not have that distinct edikang ikong soup aroma due to the scent leaf overwhelming scent. U can experiment by cooking two dish of edikang ikong soup using scent leaf in one and using water leaf in the other.
Another thing that u must avoid is putting lot of water. Water leaf on its own is water, so use little water. And don't over cook the vegetables as it will kill the nutrients in it, a minute or two is all u need after adding the ugwu leaves last.

OK noted. Thanks for the detailed explanation

Who be did one self? Tell us which one is vegetable soup, how it is prepare instead of spilling trash.
Shut it o. You are neither from the two states that soup is known for. The fact is that the soup is native to Efik people in Calabar. If you want to know the real difference, come to Calabar with your money, I'll cook the two for you free of charge and you'll see the difference.

Using same vegetable to cook the two doesn't make them the same. One is mostly for the rich while anyone can afford the other. I hope you understand now.

Don't challenge what you don't know. You feel say as you dey so, you can afford a plate of Edikanikong soup in this present day Nigeria. Go and eat your vegetable soup in peace abeg. Don't brand that as Edikanikong soup.

The correct English is Expatiate take note. Expatiate. Many people including broadcasters erroneously say expansiate! It is very wrong. Fact check me. No such word in English language.

What is the difference between this soup and Yoruba's efo riro?
Just the vegetable and Iru....Men, I still prefer Efo riro to Edika ikong

Putting in boil water will also ‘kill’ the nutrient like you said
It is called blanching . 95% of it's nutrients are still intact..... plunge the vegetable in hot water and rinse in cold water to stop the cooking process .

As a matter of fact, if some vegetables are not blanched, some people system seems to react to it, by immediately going to the toilet.
Eg Water leaf , Tete , Amunututu etc

A different type of vegetable is used in Efo riro, not water leaf and ugwu used in this soup
There's no preference for the type of vegetables to be used for cooking ego riro...all vegetables can fit in.
