Hmmm. Nigerians are just hypocritical. Is our national life not a reflection of the British? We inherited their religion and culture and we practice these western culture with zeal to the detriment of our own culture. If we truly want to be Africans in totality, it should be a good total but we know it isn't true because we idolise European ways of life

What I find interesting is that both Kperogi and Reno are helping to define "tribe" and "native" in their proper context.

And this reminds me of what I wrote on my blog sometime ago.

Most of things we say in English, we don't really know the meaning in the native speakers content. Because only the owner of a language can have an organic experience with meaning in that language. No matter how much you speak the English language, you cannot have an organic experience with meaning. You have to be literally mad to have an organic experience with the English language, i e your brain chemistry would have to work differently than a normal African.

Certainly, white people have damaged something in our brains on the African continent. This has to be the reason why such an irrational thing as reversing to a colonial anthem would be passed as law. But I am trying to figure out whether this damage has been before the whites arrived. Only a brain-dead people can throw away a national anthem written by themselves in exchange for one written by a foreigner.
National anthem written by themselves - Nigerians' with approval in their NASS?

Like the 1999 Constitution written by Nigerians in their NASS?

Like the 36 states and Abuja political structure created by Nigerians in their NASS?

Like the unitary government system created by Nigerians in their NASS? Go siddon with your intact intelligence, abeg.

That the Anthem of 1960 was created during the eve of independence doesn't confer to it a colonial creation.

Of course, there's nothing we're participating in that's real. Or you don't know that yet? This illusion has become your and our reality. That's why you cannot see why a national anthem written by Nigerians is better than one written by a foreigner.

There is nothing wrong in pointing out that tribes and tongues differ in Nigeria.
If that is the only truth we should tell ourselves, so be it.
Self realization comes from accepting the truth. Even in the US, it is not uncommon to hear people identify as African Americans, Chinese Americans, Hispanics Americans, Indian Americans etc. These does not make any one of them less Americans.
True reconciliation starts with truth telling. The beauty of the old anthem is even for the fact that it was written by an unbiased. person who has no dog in fight.
Left for the Nigerian citizens, phrases like “Arise oh compatriot” would make the first line. A call which no doubt is to fight and subjugate their fellow Nigerian.
This one sounds colonially finished.

When y'all voted in a useless government, what do you expect? Of all the problems in Nigeria, it's the national anthem that he decided to change. I don laugh tire (grin grin grin) but I know it's not a laughing matter. Idk how a government can be this irresponsible and lackadaisical towards its people, smh.
It was a state capture, and behaves like it.

Stop repeating this vote lie before it starts seeming like the truth.

If government can reason, they can change those words pointed at - tribe and native.

The tribe may be change to 'ethnic' while native land could be change to fertile land.

Remain locked up forever in your illusions on forming a Nation State from Nigeria through a new National Anthem, political structure, constitution, and governance system ordered by military dictators from a region of Nigeria. You don't seem to recognise the fact that Nigeria is a country formed by three different regions at independence, with a National Anthem, political structure, constitution, and governance system agreed upon by all segments of the three regions of Nigeria on independence day. If you don't understand that Nigeria's democracy and development process have been arrested by those creations by military fiat, and the creations MUST be democratically changed through contributions by all segments of Nigeria, you have a long walk home. Your hope for Nation State to emerge for Nigeria through the creations of military dictators from a section of Nigeria, is forlorn.

You are talking ignorant nonsense. Language is by usage. Hence in America they pronounce schedule as skejule, while the English pronounce it as shejule. Non is more correct. Old English became old English entirely due to usage - people simply stopped talking that way!

Power must always be held in trust for the people by a few good men. The mob is a woman, and is most times more emotional than logical.

To me, Kperogi stringed words together out of emotions rather than reason or logic

Reverting to Nigeria we hail thee is a spiritual masterstroke. This is the anthem we used during the time of our prosperity. Arise O Compatriots has got to be one of the most soulless and meaningless national anthems ever adopted by a nation, it recognized nothing of our diversity, and attempted to fuse us into one national mass by military fiat and in so doing we became an unwieldy and dysfunctional mess of a nation. 46 years later, who are our heroes past? Which lofty heights have we attained as a dysfunctional mass?

The mob is a woman.
Bolded is absolutely correct.

A spiritual master stroke indeed from President Tinubu.

Well, on Nairaland we use man and woman interchangeably. Some monikers are male in the morning and by evening they become female grin

Not only is that other anthem bad, the "hail thee"anthem is GENIUS - the best anthem in the world in my opinion

I'm obviously not just talking pronunciation. Language is by usage in all ramifications. Whatever the vast majority of people mean by a word, becomes it's meaning in that location, and their dictionary will shortly update to reflect that

Most of the people criticizing the new national anthem don't even know how to sing the discarded one. But they are the ones making noise about it the most. Why not let the school children sing it if you as an adult can't?

Take for instance, the demented Peter Obi, he can't sing the old or new anthems but is very good reciting the Biafran anthem. The mumu agulu idiot failed his only son who became a homosexual but is telling you that he can fix Nigeria shocked
The only demented person here is you, you left the topic to talk about Peter Obi, Is Peter Obi the writter of the this article or was it Peter Obi that changed the national anthem? There's is no sign you can get healed from dementia. Na follow come.
