Thought you said you are now in the uk, leave this issue to those it concerned the most. Let the FG deal with this MW first before talking real wage. What is the MW in the uk, what is inflation rate? If you dont have any sensible thing to say, embrace silence.
I will not embrace silence am a Nigerian I only went to school... A master/PhD then I will be back.

Real wage is the actual value of the naira.
Normal wage is the face value.. Which is what labour is asking to be reviewed upward.

I know my argument is seen as anti progress especially to the working class in FG payroll.

Let me ask you... Are you willing to pay your gate man 400,000 as minimum wage?

The UK u talked about, they do everything right to ensure that their real wage doesn't fall.

Government must tackle insecurity that drives away investors, they must ensure farmers are able to go to farm unhurt, they must support farmers that grows this crops, end importation of fuel, seek way to address excessive borrowing, and seek ways to ask for debt forgiveness and pay debt borrowed..
Lastly they should ensure state governors are accountable.

This are the thing sinking naira down.

Bros kindly permit me to tell you sharrap!

So the 160 million for SUVs per senator didn't cause inflation stage 2?

The 90 billion for Hajj didn't cause inflation stage 3?

The over bloated appointments and large number attending conferences didn't cause stage 4 inflation shey?

Its minimum wage for the Nigerian worker who's facing multiple hardships on all fronts caused by subsidy removals, Naira floating, high interest rates etc that will cause inflation?

Guy keep your augmented Phillips curve theory Abi Philomena curve theory one side abeg.

No be only you go do theories for school. The Reality is a different ball game
This argument is beyond your mental capacity.

Lastly if government refuse to address the root causes of which involves wastage of public funds then in 10 years from now you will ask for 1million minimum wage.

@ fullclub Real wage that seems to be your magic phrase. Now think, should the workers wait till FG solve the problem of insecurity before they feed? (same problem Jonathan and Buhari could not solve for more than 12 years), should Nigeria workers wait for steady electricity, good roads etc before they take care of their children since they dont need nominal wage but real wage. The problem with people like you is that you embrace books and throw away your brains forgeting that your brain should come first. If you continue like this, a school cert. will lead and control you even with your PhD

Am an Msc student in a prestigious University in the UK and this area of discuss is my specialty.

No economic theory will support wage increase by 100% not alone 500%

If government should peg 400,000 as minimum wage then you should be ready to pay your maid, gate man, security guards, drivers etc 400,000 as salary.
But there is economic theory to support the removal of subsidies on petroleum, floating of naira , over 200% increase in the salaries of judicial officers, billions of naira spending to buy bullets proofs SUV vehicles for the legislative members, billions of naira on budget padding and trillion of naira for Coast road from calabar to Lagos? undecided , The payment of minimum wages is only applicable to people that have up to 25 and above employees in their organization.

Offer 75k to Labour. Show good faith. Scrap unnecessary spending. Scrap pilgrim board. Reduce presidential fleet. Just show good faith. Don't assume you are better than Nigerian workers. Don't assume you are our bosses because we voted you there. Just show good faith.
What can 75k do in today's economy? It seems you have no idea how shitty the value of the naira has become.

knowledge, it's only the civil servants that should be impoverised by accepting peanut as wages in the name of preventing inflation while other actors in the schemes of things like the executive, legislature's members should smile to bank with billions of naira monthly?

Holding FG accountable, ensuring that reforms are carried out in the INEC, ensure that they go on strike because of killings and insecurity in North etc. Ensuring they mobilised their workers to elect sensible leaders. Going on strike when it was evident that elections were rigged.

The problem we are facing today has nothing to do with Jonathan . It was created by Buhari

Abegi what percentage of the populace are government workers. Only the announcement of the rejected 65k has resulted in the hike of food items. Do this NLC also have the interest of the private sectors in mind. It is sure that it won't work out or it will rather create additional hardship in return if half of their asking are met.

Labour demand is much. They should accept 60/70 as minimum wage

Oh they should pay them 400,000 they asked for?
Na stage 2 inflation you de call for. Have you studied the Expectational Augmented Philip curve theory?
Have you studied the wage wage price spiral theory?

Can the government cought out this money you called without going back to print more money?
If what labour is asking for Is implemented it's to cost 10 trillion monthly. Does Nigeria has that money to push out?

The government should look for ways to increase productivity, that is national output.
They should look for ways to tackle insecurity so that farmers can grow food.
They should look for ways out all federal roads in order to transport foods, goods from North to South.

They should look for ways to be transparent in oil production. Ensures they partner with dangote to bridge the gap that exist in oil import.

If all this are tackle alongside corruption mostly among state government then real wage will increase.

There is a difference between real wage n money wage. ... Search that in Internet to learn more.
But the president can spend 8 billion along with his Vice on travel alone in few months ? grin

Chairman, that amount is too small ooo! Transportation will consume more than half of the money. The minimum wage between 100 and 120k is better.

You don't run an economy by simple emotion rather by proven economic theory.

If you agree to their demand then by 10 years we will be on the table again to discuss same issue.
According to the quantity theory of money,
M*v=p*y. When you increase money supply through whatever means then it will result to higher prices.

Rather government must give priority to the fundamentals that trigger this problem which are fuel importation, government must partner with dangote to ensure they end oil import.
Government must ensure they also set up a framework to tackle insecurity, especially in the north so that people can go back to farm peacefully.
Farmers must be supported by all means,
Wastage by state governors must be checked.
If all this are done then real wage will increase rather than money wage
Now tell me, out of all these aforementioned strategies, which one has the government applied so far?

The earlier they shutdown Nigeria, the better to save lives.

If it's possible, they should sell Nigeria to China or Russia, and in 10 to 20 years we will be a developed country

You claimed that that there's no money and that it will bring more inflation but failed to tell us why there's inflation in the first place. Let me tell you some basic things but you and the federal government are missing.
Fuel and exchange rate (dollar) are the strongest pillars of our economy. They influence other factors of production, demand, supply and profit margin. Everything every rise in price of commodities is tied to Dollar and fuel hence the high inflation. Take for instance the recent hike in electricity tariff was on the premise that the cost of production is higher than what it used to be.
Everything in the market has tripped it's price and still counting .
Now tell me why a supposed first class economist like Tinubu will expect that things will remain the same after touching the very life wires of our economy? Maybe you should help me remind him that exchange rate and fuel are hydra-headed components that once touched, there will be a multiple chain reactions.

Certainly, labor will not insist on 400k because it's not feasible, but will definitely not settle for anything below 100k and it's very justifiable.

Buhari printed so much money in his tenure and I don't know what reason he did that.
There was massive borrowing at the same time.
Infact Buhari killed Nigeria and those who voted massively for Buhari should be held responsible for that.

Like I said fuel import should be addressed. Dangote should be partnered with in that area to see that fuel issue is put to stop.

There are other things I mentioned but if they ignore all and increase minimum wage then we shall be here again in next 10 years maybe asking for 2 million minimum wage. Maybe by then a bag if rice will sell for 500,000 to 1m.

You can see the trend of money growth.. Check the years and correspond it with how prices rose in the market

Labour only know how to fight for money wage increase but will keep quite when farmers are killed in the farm, will keep quite when all federal roads are bad. Will keep quite when government makes wrong policies.

They don't read to understand but so they can regurgitate word for word and speak phonetics
This deprive them of the saying all things are not equal, you can't use same formula for every situation,,you group them according to similarities, so the text book he read and applying in Nigeria is not written with the Nigeria context in mind,he has to use his brain to come up with appropriate solutions not copy and paste as he is doing
The same mistake Tinubu made floating naira in an import dependent country, with close to nothing in export capacity, coupled with weak and inefficient systems, you can see the results
